AMVPlayer stops afer a few seconds, multiple versions

I use the amvconverter to create an AMV from an AVI. When I play throught the converter, all is well, and the files work fine on the player I have. When I try to preview the converted file using AMVPLAYER.EXE, it will run from 3-11 seconds or so and quit. I get an (error?) message in a text file called DirectSoundPlayer.txt that says
"[2011-2-6, 10:5:28]
HandleNotificationThread(void* pParam),Lockʧ°Ü"

Can someone help me figure this out? I have tried several versions of the AMV Converter software, from 3.68 up to 4.15, they all display the same behaviour. I also checked the settings on the converter and insured that the "Cut source video fragment" was not checked, as I found this suggestion on another forum.
