Chipod Shuffle just turns off

Hi there, new to forum. If this is the wrong place to ask this, let me know and I'll go sit in the corner with a shameful look on my face.

I bought my daughter a fake shuffle of eBay. It's a 2GB Metal Slim Clip MP3 player in blue. It came from China. I don't feel any guilt on buying this device...she's 5 and apt to losing nearly everything if it isn't physically attached, therefore a $10 mp3 player is suitable for her.

The problem is, it played fine the first day without issue. Then she used up the battery and we charged it back up. After charging, the thing only plays for 2-3 minutes, the LED blinks on the side in rapid succession (faster than it does while playing) and it fades the music and turns off. Seems an awful lot like a battery issue.

I have read to charge these things on USB by turning the device off, connecting the cable and then turning the device back on. I did take it apart and resoldered the connections for the battery. Any idea what might be happening? Voltmeter reports 3.5V off the battery when not being used. When this happens, it seems like the draw drops below 2V. Is it a capacity issue or does the little thing have a firmware issue? If a firmware issue, can you tell me what to do to fix it?

CPU - TFT-236
Flash - SH86263

I might just buy her a new one. I can't imagine having to send it back to Chicom for a return/refund. It took too long to get here.

Thanks in advance
Jon
