Just got a very nice looking PMP, need a little help.

2.8 Inch Slip Design Game MP4 Player (4GB) - US$ 39.99

Ok, so i bought this off lightinthebox.com for some retro gaming basically to play some emulators on it, nothing else. come to find out i can only play nes and gameboy color games, which is not so bad. i would of enjoyed it more if it was capable of playing snes and/or sega roms, but whatever. :D

i have one problem with it, its kinda slow, the os in itself. just that it lags and i find it annoying to press a button and it taking a second or 2 before it even responds.

what i would like to know is what chipset is it, i opened it up and found this inside "zx-8022rk-tlsk v1.3 2010-9-7" i dont really know what that means, but i googled it and most of the websites are in chinese and its just really confusing. can i update the firmware or version?

better yet, should i even update at all if i could? i just wanna speed this little bad boy up a little, if anybody can help me it will be greatly appreciated.

thank you in advanced.

edit: checking the settings i found that my firmware is 13.00.10.1020.090902

To be quite honest with you, I would say the slowness is due to the poor processing power on these devices.

What you'll find is the processor would be the bear minimum and enough to get the player operating. But if you're wanting a speed machine, you won't find it. There probably won't be any firmware available to make it any faster because the problem is with the hardware rather than firmware/software.

Even the new touch screen players that run the Android OS, I've found the one I have is very slow and not usable. There are others but it comes down to the price you're willing to pay for it. The higher the processing speed, the higher the price.

Hope that helps abit.

It's frustrating because from the manufacturer's point of all, all they want to do is get the player out there as cheaply as possible. They're competing in a very competitive market and for them to put more processing power into their player, it will cost more and eats into their profit margins unless they sell at a higher price...... I remember when I first got into the MP4 market trying to sell them, I've talked to numerous manufacturers and some told me that half of the manufacturers in China will close shop each year and more will open up.

i think if they upgraded the hardware a little more they could compete with all the expensive gadgets. even if they raise the price, im sure people will still buy these things. nowadays everybody wants one single product that can do everything at once for a reasonable price. the operating system on these chinese ipods are pretty good too a minor update would do wonders for buisness
