Power Issues

Hi there

I’ve got an generic “MP4-MP5 Player”, but it won’t work on battery only :shock:

If I plug it on pc or power plug, all right, but if I pull the plug it shuts down immediately

I searched a lot on the web for information about how to fix it before giving up and asking for help here

Here is all the information I’ve managed to get

Using USB Deview I’ve got the Vendor ID and Product ID



Vid_04fc Pid_3056

A quick Google search points this PID to be from a Sunplus product

Operating the software I can see this in Tools / Version
Version 321.5678

The startup screen is exactly like this “Light your life” one

The computer recognizes it fine, I can take pictures, put or get files, etc but only while plugged on USB or Power plug



I don’t know what is happening, I tried using s1fwx to backup my firmware before trying anything else but it says “No Device Found”

I humbly request for help, or some directions. Thanks for the attention.

It could possibly be:

1. The USB cable is faulty, particularly one of the pins that provide the power to charge your player on the USB cable is faulty. So I would suggest try a different USB cable and see if that helps.

2. The pins on your player's USB port is faulty as it's not picking up the charge from the USB cable

3. The connection from your player's board into the battery is faulty or isn't soldered on properly so it's not passing on the electrical charge to your battery.

4. The battery is faulty.


The easiest one to try is another USB cable as this is a rather common problem unfortunately.

i'd would say most likely 3 or 4 unfortunately, i cracked my chipod open and the solder joints were terrible, no flux, very dry.

Tested it with another usb cable, same problem

Strangely, the battery icons looks fully charged, and everything works as it should when plugged on usb or power cord, but if i unplug the power source [puff] it shuts down immediately

At first i thought it was some software problem that could be fixed with a firmware update, but now I am starting to believe that is indeed a battery problem. Any more suggestions?

the fully charged icon indicates to me a dud battery or very dud connection.... it is shorting out.

open it up and take some nice closeups of the battery and connection to board, both sides - should be able to tell if its just a solder bridge (or if the joins are clean, a dud battery)

I will take a wild guess here to say that it is... perhaps.. a wire problem? No wonder the battery wasn't working

How do i fix it?

Y U NO HAVE GOOD BATTERY?

i'm assuming there's 2 holes for those wires, and you would need a soldering iron and a steady hand to reattach the battery. should be fairly easy as you are not dealing with delicate components (like the chip)

if you don't already know.. you are looking for 2 holes close together that look like they had ur battery wires in em. they should also be marked with symbols + -
you might need to look at the other side to find the symbols, and may actually have to solder from the other side as well

if you don't already have an iron, you can grab a cheap one from a hardware store. I recommend getting at least 25watt otherwise you will be waiting all day for it to heat up & the job won't be as good. You also want some self-flux solder (i usually get a small amount in a handy tube for a couple of bucks)

the trick is to use as little solder as u can. too much and heats up everything alot, and it might spread.
if theres too much, shake or blow it off and try again
i'm sure there's some good tutorials on youtube
