Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Can someone please help I purchased a cheap mp3 player from Hong Kong and I got 5 or so videos converted and able to play on them but now it seems they wont convert properly and all I keep getting is an error message on my mp4 player screen. I have read what to do and have downloaded wmp 10 and direct x 9 but am still having no luck all the files are windows media files but for some reason only 6 or so will convert and play on the player
Thanks MIKE |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hi Mike,
Some questions for you: 1. What version of the convert tool are you using? 2. Have you tried downloading the samples from this site to see if they play on your player? 3. What is the error you're getting when you try to play the AMV videos on your player? 4. Are you having problems converting to AMV on your computer or playing AMV files from your player or both? If you can answer those questions, that will be helpful in determining what the problem is exactly. Thanks, Binh |
Hello I can convert them on my pc fine its when I drag them to my Mp4 player and the message comes up in Chinese and the errors is wrong format! I am using the latest software 3.68 I beleive it is. And the problem is playing them on my player

Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hi Mike,
Try checking to see if there is enough room available on your player. Maybe it's run out of space? Can you delete some files and then try copying it across and see what happens? Does your player come with some sample .AMV files? Try to copy them into the same location. Check whether it's AMV or MTV files. MTV files are rather large in size. You said "the problem is playing them on my player", what's the message that comes up when you try to play it on your player? Thanks, Binh |
the message on the player is wrong format I will try again on a 1 gb mp4 player how many AMVs will fit I only have 6 videos on it now
Thanks MIKE |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hi Mike,
I've read somewhere that someone else had a similar problem to yours with that error message. What the problem was, they not no space left on the player. They deleted some files and it was ok. Try right-mouse clicking on your 'removable drive' from Windows Explorer and see how much free space you have left.... Cheers, Binh |
Bihn Thanks alot this site is now in my favorites if there is anyone out there this is the best site Ive seen and by far the most helpful
Thanks again MIKE |
Hey Mike,
Glad you like the site and that you find it helpful. Pass on the good word to everyone else as well :). Thanks, Binh |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hey,
Nice forum and all that jazz. I recently aqcuired an mp4 player and did the usual stupid beginner mistake - upgraded the firmware... Before doing that I was able to play .amv movie-files but now my player just says 'format error' whenever I try to play a movie. The player came with a sample .amv and that doesn't play now either. Is there some way to get my player to play movies again? My player looks exactly like the MP3366c one although it's metalic blue instead of silver. (it also has SONY written on it  ) I would Appreciate any tips on how to proceed. /Kris |
Hey Kris,
Good to see you like the site. Did you make a backup of your original firmware by any chance? Probably not I would imagine. You are sure you can play .AMV files? Not .MTV files instead? The reason why I ask is that the MP3366c firmware that's on our website can play .MTV files, but not .AMV. I have seen some other people 'hacking' it so it can play .AMV files though. Let me check to see if I still have the link for you. Can you player play .MTV files ok though? |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hey,
Thanks for the quick response. You assume correctly; I did not make a backup of the firmware. Yes it can play both .amv and .mtv, I downloaded the MP3 Player utilities from the download section and tried both formats. The player also had a sample .amv-file preinstalled when I got it and that played without problems before the "upgrade". /Kris |
Hi Kris,
Try this firmware instead then: http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=67 It's from Scrub, who has modified it so it can play both .AMV and .MTV files. Let me know if that works or not. Hope this helps. Good luck. |
Hi,
I'm having kinda same problem as Kris, but I did nothing to me MP4. It has a sample .amv in it that works perfectly, but I downloaded 2 samples from the site and they don't work. They start playing, but in seconds it stops and says "Format Error". Every movie that i try to convert into amv have the same problem. The model is not the VL-547, but is quite similar, but it has SONY written on it. Do you have any ideia of what could be? Thanks, Raphael |
Hi Raphael,
Can your player play everything else ok? Like it can play mp3 songs, photos and FM radio ok? What .AMV files did you download from the site? It sounds like you might have a problem with the memory in the player? But if it can play everything else fine, then it might not be the case. Let me know if it can play everything else fine? Can you try checking the available SPACE left on your player? Try deleting some files and see if that helps too. |
Hi Bihn,
Thanks by the quick response. :D I can play MP3 files perfectly. Pictures have the same problem as the amv videos. There was a picture in it that I erased accidentally, but it could be played before. This MP4 player doesn't have FM Option, but it has a E-Docs option, that reads .txt files, and this option works. I downloaded Madonna's and Black Eyed Peas' videos. Both had that problem that i described. The player has 2Gb of memory, and i just put 20 songs in it to test, it has 94% free. Thanks, Raphael. |
Hi Raphael,
Can you upload the sample AMV that was originally on your player please? What screen size player do you have? Can I get you to move everything off your player (so it doesn't have any files in there) and just try copying over the two sample .AMV files you downloaded from our site and see if that works? |
are the amv files playing alright on your computer (amv player that comes with amv converter?) if they are then the size of the amv must b different. n e ways, what is the error message u r getting when u try to play them?

Thanks for your help. =]
I finally got it working. I don't know exactly what the problem was, but i tried differents of combination of configurations and one of them worked. It is this way now: Video 128x128 High High mode0 Misc Overwrite file NOT CHECKED Try other coded CHECKED It's a 1.5 display. The player is a Nano iPod like. All my videos gnow work on it, but the two samples that i got here still don't. I dried to do what you said, of getting everything out of it, but still didn't work, maybe my player requires a specific configuration. I can upload the video and also a picture of the MPX Player if you still want it. Thanks again for your help. Raphael |
Hi Raphael,
Good on you for trying and got it working! I think the "use alternate codec" might make a difference as maybe the codec used to convert your video file not be the best one and producing no sound? Or maybe it was the "mode0"? I will make a note of it. Can you please put [solved] in front of your original post message please? This is so that everyone knows it's solved. |
Try playing MTV files. do they work? or try amv files with different screen sizes, large, small etc...
or better still, try converting some movies into amv using the amv converter urself and then try... see what happens |
AMV files with no sound
i have asked this b4 but the site was altered or somthin cos it disappeared
i can convert video clips to .amv with a pretty good picture but the sound is non existent i dont know what i am doin wrong but can you help? plz? |
JIT,
Can you upload one of your .AMV files to the site pelase? I'll try playing it on my player and see what happens. Want to find out whether it's the encoding or the player itself... |

Rillee, Some questions for you: 1. What's the error message you get on movies you can't play? 2. Have you tried the sample files on our site and see if they work? 3. Try deleting some movies/files from your player, then delete the ones that doesn't play and recopy them back on your player. Now see if it plays? It could be that you are running out of disk storage space on your player..... Let me know. |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
1.The player say format error
2.I have tried the samples they work. 3. I dont have more than maybe 150 MB in my player so i dont thing thats the problem i got 4GB memory. I Hope that can help  |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hello Again! anyone know how to fix the problem with my MP4 player :?:
|
Raphael,
Try formatting your player. Beware though that some have discovered that after formatting, they've found their TRUE memory storage size to be considerably small than that originallly. This format clears any 'hacks' or modifications made to it to make it display more memory than it is actually capable of. Try that. Good luck. |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hi, I have a similar problem with files displaying a "Format Error" but it appears to be limited to file sizes above 4meg. Is there a maximum file size that these players will handle?
I have the 2GB nano clone & there is 0.7 GB Space left on it |
daver
I don't think there is a limit on the .AMV sizes. The music video samples on our site are over 10MB's and they run fine on my all my players. I would say DELETE some unwanted files first then copy over the AMV files again. Try that and tell me if that works. |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
Hi,
I have tried removing all files but still only files less than 4 meg will play. Even if you put a <4meg file on after a 10 meg it will still play but files over 4 meg refuse to play at all under any circumstances. |
daver
If you can't get any AMV files larger than 4MB's to play, then there seems to be a serious problem with your player. Does anyone else have this same problem with AMV files larger than 4MB's not playing? Actually, daver, can you create a NEW post and title it something like "can't play AMV files larger than 4MB" for me please? I would be interested to know if anyone else has this same problem. |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
daver,
Are converting using 4.00? If so, try uninstalling it and install 3.68. Then try converting large >4mb file again. Post your results.... I |
Re: Cannot get AMV files to work on my MP4 player
daver,
Well ? Did that work? I |
Raphael
Try deleting ALL the 20 songs and everything else in your player. Then copy ONLY the .amv video files and see if that then plays on your player. Let me know of the result. |
