Re: smv problem

Yeah, I tried to download it here and there’s no file extention, I tried zip, Rar, and exe and no go.

But the picture looks just like the crappy Stimatel Motion Video my player came with.
That program works but it’s ridiculously slow with no batch processing. I can do more than 20 AMV video’s UNATTENDED with AMV software before I can encode one SMV!

There’s got to be something better than this I hope!

relaxxx,

The file is a .7z zip file.
You need 7-Zip to unzip it. It's freeware and is downloadable from this website too from here: http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...ile&file_id=12

Re: Smv convert tool

I've just received my 1st Sigmatel player.
I have what looks like maybe version 3.00 of this tool for SMV players on CD. I will try to upload the tool in uploads section, but I have not had luck w/ doing that before.
The folder binh, is apprx. 2.67MB in size.

This version allows encoding at 160x128 res.

Regards,
I

EDIT:
Binh, I have zipped it in winrar, so package size is about 980KB.

Hey Iridium, Is your new player a 1.8 and can you upload some pictures and a bit of a review of it, I am currently bidding on a 1.8 Nano clone but would be good to know what some of the other players are like.

Cheers M8.

Re: smv problem

@ yoc1983,

Forgot to mention.... Yeah, it works fine, but slowwww. Do not expect the speed of an amv file conversion. Have yet to figure why it's so slow. Results are generally good, but see below.

@ tadad1,

Good luck on your bid mate, I hope you win. Don't bid too high :)... there's always another auction, and many Chinese guys are at work right this second churning out more of 'em.
Keep in mind I've had it about 24 hours, so haven't test driven it too far yet.... But:

Pros:
1 Sigmatel graphics put the standard S1mp3's graphics to shame. What can I say but, NO MORE LOTUS FLOWER FESTIVAL ! YIPPEEEE !!
I may not even dork w/ the graphics on this one.

2 Button response time seems faster/ smoother than AMV.

3 Big plus here: usb interface is a standard config so if you lose your cable, no biggie.

4 fast forward is ... well, FAST!

Cons:
1 you have to install SMV software and dick with the SMV format.

2 SMV convertor is as mentioned, slowwwww. at a guess, 4 times slower than AMV.

3 I am now looking for an extractor for this firmware, and have yet to find it. BTW it looks like a copy of the .bin file was on the CD which is great in case you fry your new toy. It's called 'resource' or sumtin' like that.

4 converted files appear darker than AMV AND........ there is a weird slideshow effect when camera angle changes in scenes. Not sure if I like this or not. It appears as tho the software is tagging key frames and trying to sync audio w/ video, and does so at these transitions (slideshow effect at scene change).

There's probably more, + and - but those are my initial assessments.
Do I reccomend it?
Sure.
You could do much worse. Hell, the the price of a 1 gig chip alone is about $25- $35 USD on sale, I paid $61 USD shipped, no tax, so no complaints here.

Here's a similar unit :

Sorry, can't post a pic, but it's good looking, it won't disapoint.

Gooday mate, and good luck! Let us know if you win!

Thanks Iridium keep us updated.

I found smv encoding goes faster if you use a tool like virtual dub to resize the AVI screen to 160X128 before encoding.

relaxxx,

Do you have the nanoclone version of smv player?

Can you compare it to any amv players you've had? Do you like the features/ operation of the Sigmatel better?

I.

Re: smv problem

I think it's a nano clone. The 1.8” screen is slightly clearer as it’s slightly more resolution.160X128 is full screen and rotated 90deg on the player for proper TV aspect. The 1.5” amv had more modes to crop or stretch, but I couldn’t get a rotated video to work. The 1.5” framerate was slow and “blurry” looking while the 1.8” SMV video is still slow but more “crisp” I’d say it’s probably 10fps.

I just ran into another problem today with the SMV software, I can’t get it to work on Win98. I get an error when I select a video to encode.
