Default Problem with MP4 converter and player

Hi everyone,
First of all - excellent forum, really helpful!!

Ive had alot of problems with my new MP4 nano clone, bought in china.
First of all, after formatting my 4gb player to get the videos to work - I only ended up with about 40mb of memory, which i think is a lot lower than average. Does anybody know a way I can convert a video to a smaller size to squeeze in? Because occasionally when i try to convert a file thats 40mb it ends up being 80 or more mb! Not cool!

Another problem is with the AMV video convert tool 4.0. I think the newest version. But for some odd reason i can only convert to 128x128 or 160x120. Im hoping that by finding a way to convert to 96x96 the video size will be smaller and so might be able to fit onto my measly 40mb player.

Any help is appreciated

P.S. occasionally after accidentally shutting my player completely off with the "off" switch, I cant make the screen go into a "sleep" mode to save batteries. Any ideas? :?

Mo DeLonge, Even if your 4GB player was one of the ones we hear about that have smaller memory chips hacked so that they appear much larger I have never heard if one being only 40MB. I suggest that you open your player and locate the memory chip (usually the largest chip on the board) and note it's brand and serial number. then doing a Google search for it will generally find you information on the chips specifications.

Also did you format it with the Mp3 Player Disk Tool or through Windows as you need to use the disk tool.

Regarding AMV conversion you are better off using version 3.68 as it is more stable than 4.0 and you are able to change all the settings.

To activate sleep mode for your LCD you need to be sure to set the clock. If you turn the player off at the switch the clock will be reset so best to turn your player off by holding down the play button until it shuts down.

You also need to go to settings, LCD set, and set the two settings below Brightness to the number of seconds you want before the lcd shuts off then press the play button to accept the settings. Although both seem to be the same on my player I need to set and accept both settings for the sleep mode to function properly.

I hope this helps and let us know the outcome of your chip search.

Hi again,

Ive looked for a way to uninstall version 4.0 but i cant seem to find it - and i cant install the other version until ridding 4.0. Advice? Anyone?

Also, i think i forgot to mention this before, but videos actually do work quite well - just the problem of lack of space. Does this still require me to open the back? Because it has taken me a while to get it to its current working standard, and i am not confident that i would be able to put the components back together without recking it.

Thanks - I really really appreciate your help! :!:

P.S. Its actually 46 mb but its still pretty darn low

Mo,

Go to start/programs/accessories. Scroll down to mp3 player utilities. There should be an uninstall icon there. Or control panel/ add/remove programs.

Before uninstalling, try reformatting w/ amvtools 'disk tool'.

Do not partition drive. Post results if it increases disk space....

I.

imran_gazal, It is not possible to change the display size within you player but you can change the size on your AMV files in the AMV Conversion Tool. If you load the file you wish to convert and then select it in the file browser at the bottom then click on the blue cog button in the output info area, when the settings window opens you can select the width and height you want. You will find that different versions of AMV Conversion Tool give you different sizing options. Experiment a bit till you get the desired size.

Hope this helps

Howdy,

I was able to uninstall 4.0 and install 3.68. Its working alot better. Im now able to get 20 minute videos on by converting it first with windows movie maker, and then with the AMV tool into 96x94. However, on occasion i would like to make it 128x128, but the drop down icon which changes the size of the video is greyed out, and so only 96x94 is available.

ops: Sorry about all the problems - Thanks for the Help,
Mo D.

P.S. If any one wants to know how to make a video a much smaller size i can help!

Mo DeLonge

Would it be that Movie Maker is causing this problem? What do you use Movie Maker for? Resizing the video or converting it to an .AVI file or something else?

I doubt its Movie Maker, all videos ive tried are greyed out and so stuck in 96x94. But Movie Maker is used mainly to make the video smaller in size, quality and then in essence the memory space to make it fit onto my player, the format of the video is still the same as before being put through Movie Maker.
