Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Having just bought a second "Chinapod" this one with 1.8 LCD and 2GB storage I was suprised at how much difference .3 of an inch can make to the viewing of videos. The larger screen seems sharper and the colors more robust and certainly Firmware 3.5.37 appears a little snappier than 3.5.35.
However I was not a happy camper when I found that I could not play any AMV files at 160x120 without the dreaded "Format Error" after a few minutes of play. After many hours and much frustration I have finally managed to encode and watch 2 full length movies without error. (The 3rd one converting as I type.) If you are having the same problem try this. Uninstall whatever version of AMV Converter you have installed and install Version 3.57 from the Tools Download section. http://www.mympxplayer.org/dload.php...file&file_id=1 Start the converter and load a file as usual go into settings and select size 128x96 then start converting for a few seconds then stop and close the converter. This has caused the converter to generate a file in the AMVTools folder called transformsetup.ini. Open this file in notepad and replace the settings with this: [Setup] Overwrite=TRUE Insertwave=FALSE Insertpic=FALSE Transplay=TRUE Trycode=TRUE VFBS=medium VWH=160*120 These settings will now stay constant, as long as you do not open the settings window otherwise they will be overwritten so just load and convert. Now it will convert to 160x120 and your AMV's should play without errors. I believe that some players like mine are unable to handle this resolution at 16 frames per second the above settings will drop that to 12 fps and version 3.57 of the converter tool seems to be the only one where you can make these adjustments. (Now all I need to do is get rid of the Lotus Blossums again.) Let me know if this works for you. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi tadad1,
Thanks for bringing this up. I have already the instructions as well in a reply to another post here: http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=69 You might also consider changing the : VFBS=middle to say "=high" instead of "middle" in case you get 'jumps' in your videos. |
Binh,
Thankyou, it was your post that helped me find the solution to my problem although I was still getting format errors. I think it was the high frame rate (16fps) that was causing the problem. It appears some players like mine may have problems when playing 160x120 at the high frame rate whilst others seem to have no problem. I have had error free playback using the medium setting (12fps) on all conversions now and the loss of 4 frames per second is barely noticeable infact it appears smother than the few minutes of play I used to get before the errors. |
Thanks tadad.
Very interestin point, I'm noting that down for next time. Thanks for letting me know. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi all,
After suffering for 2 days couldn't get my 160x120 amv playing correctly, this thread helps me  I confirm that "VFBS=high" brings back the problem, so we better keep it "middle" which is 12 fps. To prevent scene jumping, firstly I use TMPGEnc to encode my source video to 160x120 and "12 fps (internally 24fps)" settings. Then put the result mpg to AMV convert tool 3.57 with the procedures tadad1 and Binh described. The result 160x120 12fps amv plays fine and also smoothly on my player. Now happy playing video with my 1.8" 1GB ChinaPod :D Pat |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi again,
I just tried 160x120 "VFBS=high" with some short video like music videos. It plays perfectly! a little smoother than "VFBS=middle". So, you might wanna try "high" with your video first, if format error shows up, reconvert using "middle". Pat |
tadad1, big thanks it really works!!!!

i have a 3.5.35 firmware... somebody know any firmware i can change for my balck 2gb ipod cover nano???? i really need the correctly firmware to change
|
Guest, Why do you want to change the firmware?
If you are having problems try extracting your firmware, repair it and then reload it. You will find a guide in the Knowledge Base on how to do this. If you are wanting to add new features etc. upgrading your firmware will not do that it will most likely kill your player. If your player is dead I suggest you read the DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE Might need a bit more info on your player to help you find the right firmware. Can you describe your current firmware, Menu images, boot screen etc. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi
I replaced the below settings inside the file called transformsetup.ini. [Setup] Overwrite=TRUE Insertwave=FALSE Insertpic=TRUE Transplay=TRUE Trycode=FALSE VFBS=high VWH=160*120 But It never change! It still have 128x96 only. The video is still very small not full screen. Can anyone help? |
