Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Having just bought a second "Chinapod" this one with 1.8 LCD and 2GB storage I was suprised at how much difference .3 of an inch can make to the viewing of videos. The larger screen seems sharper and the colors more robust and certainly Firmware 3.5.37 appears a little snappier than 3.5.35.
However I was not a happy camper when I found that I could not play any AMV files at 160x120 without the dreaded "Format Error" after a few minutes of play. After many hours and much frustration I have finally managed to encode and watch 2 full length movies without error. (The 3rd one converting as I type.) If you are having the same problem try this. Uninstall whatever version of AMV Converter you have installed and install Version 3.57 from the Tools Download section. http://www.mympxplayer.org/dload.php...file&file_id=1 Start the converter and load a file as usual go into settings and select size 128x96 then start converting for a few seconds then stop and close the converter. This has caused the converter to generate a file in the AMVTools folder called transformsetup.ini. Open this file in notepad and replace the settings with this: [Setup] Overwrite=TRUE Insertwave=FALSE Insertpic=FALSE Transplay=TRUE Trycode=TRUE VFBS=medium VWH=160*120 These settings will now stay constant, as long as you do not open the settings window otherwise they will be overwritten so just load and convert. Now it will convert to 160x120 and your AMV's should play without errors. I believe that some players like mine are unable to handle this resolution at 16 frames per second the above settings will drop that to 12 fps and version 3.57 of the converter tool seems to be the only one where you can make these adjustments. (Now all I need to do is get rid of the Lotus Blossums again.) Let me know if this works for you. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi tadad1,
Thanks for bringing this up. I have already the instructions as well in a reply to another post here: http://www.mympxplayer.com/viewtopic.php?t=69 You might also consider changing the : VFBS=middle to say "=high" instead of "middle" in case you get 'jumps' in your videos. |
Binh,
Thankyou, it was your post that helped me find the solution to my problem although I was still getting format errors. I think it was the high frame rate (16fps) that was causing the problem. It appears some players like mine may have problems when playing 160x120 at the high frame rate whilst others seem to have no problem. I have had error free playback using the medium setting (12fps) on all conversions now and the loss of 4 frames per second is barely noticeable infact it appears smother than the few minutes of play I used to get before the errors. |
Thanks tadad.
Very interestin point, I'm noting that down for next time. Thanks for letting me know. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi all,
After suffering for 2 days couldn't get my 160x120 amv playing correctly, this thread helps me  I confirm that "VFBS=high" brings back the problem, so we better keep it "middle" which is 12 fps. To prevent scene jumping, firstly I use TMPGEnc to encode my source video to 160x120 and "12 fps (internally 24fps)" settings. Then put the result mpg to AMV convert tool 3.57 with the procedures tadad1 and Binh described. The result 160x120 12fps amv plays fine and also smoothly on my player. Now happy playing video with my 1.8" 1GB ChinaPod :D Pat |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi again,
I just tried 160x120 "VFBS=high" with some short video like music videos. It plays perfectly! a little smoother than "VFBS=middle". So, you might wanna try "high" with your video first, if format error shows up, reconvert using "middle". Pat |
tadad1, big thanks it really works!!!!
|
i have a 3.5.35 firmware... somebody know any firmware i can change for my balck 2gb ipod cover nano???? i really need the correctly firmware to change
|
Guest, Why do you want to change the firmware?
If you are having problems try extracting your firmware, repair it and then reload it. You will find a guide in the Knowledge Base on how to do this. If you are wanting to add new features etc. upgrading your firmware will not do that it will most likely kill your player. If your player is dead I suggest you read the DEAD PLAYER RECOVERY GUIDE Might need a bit more info on your player to help you find the right firmware. Can you describe your current firmware, Menu images, boot screen etc. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Hi
I replaced the below settings inside the file called transformsetup.ini. [Setup] Overwrite=TRUE Insertwave=FALSE Insertpic=TRUE Transplay=TRUE Trycode=FALSE VFBS=high VWH=160*120 But It never change! It still have 128x96 only. The video is still very small not full screen. Can anyone help? |
sharonx87, Once you edit the transformsetup.ini you do not need to enter settings just load and convert and they will be 160x120. When you enter settings they return to default.

Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Oh! I thought must go into settings hahaha!
Thanks for teaching me. But managed to convert video slightly bigger only. It is still not full screen still smaller than the demo which my player gave. Will I still be able to make the video bigger by increaseing the 160x120 to bigger values? |
sharonx87,
No any other settings will default the size to 96x64. That aside you should be getting full screen at 160x120 (less 4 pixel top and botton). Is the original video wide screen with black bands top and bottom? This is what I get with these settings http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/4866/untitled3um9.jpg |

Yes the original video wide screen with black bands top and botttom. How to attach the photo to let you see? |

Yes the original video wide screen with black bands top and botttom. How to attach the photo to let you see? Think my video is more vertical not horizontal like yours. from: Sharonx87 |
Sharonx87,
A photo would be great. You need to open an account at ImageShack http://imageshack.us/ There you can upload photos to your ImageShack account, then you just need to copy and paste the links into your post and the picture will be inserted. The other alternative is to take the pics zip them then upload them to RapidShare and leave me a link and I will download them. If you can give me a pic of the video you have converted and the demo video so I can see the difference. |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Do you mind giving me yr email address?
So, I can send you the link My email is sharonx87@yahoo.com.sg |
Thanks a million tadad! I'm using the 1.8" model and this is the only site on the Net that had the answer to my problem.
ChiPods are great, except that mine came with a virus I had to kill first! |
phantomflanflinger, Your player arrived with a Virus on it.
This is new, do you have any details of the virus? |
Here's a little trick I use so I don't have to set the transformsetup.ini file.
Find the file in Windows Explorer Right click the file and go to properties Check the "Read Only" checkbox This will prevent changes reverting back when you click Setting in the AMV Tool Hope this helps. |
Need Help
where is the link so i can download the :(
AMV Convert Tool 3.57 i've searche this site and i can't find it also i've searched the web and nothing how can i get a copy |

Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
I tried following this guide to the letter. I downloaded the converter, launched, started, stopped, edited file, opened video:
http://serial.cc/mpx.JPG Yet when i upload it and try to play, i get the format error still. If anyone could advise it would be greatly appricated. THanks. |
Dalenia, Do you have a codec pack installed on your PPPPC and did you select the "Use other codec" check box on the settings page?
|
tadad, I am in a similar situation as Delania. Followed the instructions, get a 160*120 12 FPS file which on the Pod fades out after 12 sec (always 12 sec!!). I do not however get any error message - the audio just fades out and the video stops. This is infuriating!
I have installed k-lite, so I don't think that's the problem. As mentioned in another post, the only video that works is one that came with the unit (160*120 @16fps). It can be found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/9166575/original.amv Actually it is a cute xmas video. I have been wondering if my unit has not been hacked - the vendoe and disk utility say it's 2Gb, but I have heard of unit's hacked to report larger capacities than they actually have and this causes problems. How can I be sure without reformating? |
tadad it didin't work for me...
i still get the same old 128*90.. i'm using 3.57 |
never mind i got it to work
but now i have new problem the video plays sideways, so i have to turn my player sideways to view it properly, how do i get it to play properly.. like without having to turn my player sideways to view it |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Bought 2 ChinaPods MP4 for my daughters. They seem very happy after they got what they wanted. And I’m a proud father. Soon after we’re home and I begin to install the software. (Can say I myself a power user about computers). Use the AMV converter and viola!! I’ve done it; pass the player to my daughter when suddenly she said
"Papa, why the screen so small" :( I did not know that this simple problem can cause me 3 days of agony and frustration. Every night I’ll spend about 3-5hrs soon after I reach home from work to correct this problem. I use all available video converter tools imtoo3gp, Plato even some of the software I can’t even pronounce, install, uninstall, codec pack, AMV converter tools from version 3.xx-4.05 computer hang and lastly I’ll even upgrade the firmware and the player go dead...even my comp can't detect the USB connection. "Damn it!!" if I had known I should just spend more money and get them an ipod or something. Back to the shop and tell them what a lousy player they are selling(I know it was all my fault to upgrade the firmware without checking the version) luck was on my side I still keep the receipt as it only covered warranty for 1 mth only. (For a new 1 GB 1.8TFT screen less than 20USD is really cheap. usually I will just throw the receipt away) Then I found this website; follow what TADAD1 simple instruction, to my surprise it works..... :D Thank you God, Thank you TADAD1 and thks to this website now I’m a very happy man and so are my daughter.... The End (what I bought is an ipod clone mpx player a 1GB 1.8TFT for my 4yrs and a 2Gb 1.8TFT for my 10yrs old ) for my next PRJ. Can anyone help how to change interface and the upgrade frmware safely |
The 160x120 AMV Converter came with my 1.8" player. You do not need to install it, just unpack it to a folder and run AmvTransform.
I have put it here to download: ZIP Format http://amd.streamload.com/laserjobs/AMV18.zip RAR Format http://amd.streamload.com/laserjobs/AMV18.rar |
Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
Yes VegasPlayer it was same as mine. it bundle with the amvtransform software which you don't even need to install, it was specifically for the 1.8" screen size, just copy the whole folder to my local drive and run it. But the result was still too small. I tried the whole image setup but the result was still the same
It was TADAD1 instruction that I'm able successfully get the full image for my player |

Re: Full Screen 1.8 AMV without "FORMAT ERROR"
PROBLEM WITH CONVERSION
Hi, i have 3.57 amv converter, it works great using the steps provided here, (have it set to high, and don't get a format error and the video is crisp and flows nicely) The problem i'm having, is that it works great for videos, shows, or even shorter (1.5 hour) movies. But i'v been trying to do Empire Strikes Back, and it gets almost all the way through it, sometimes at random, anywhere from 60-90 % and then a disk full error pops up. This doesn't make alot of sense, (since i have 80 gigs free on my HD) I don't even have the player hooked up yet, i was just trying to transfer it. (Doesn't work with player hooked up either) I've tried a ton of conbinations. If anybody knows why this comes up, or if there is a limit to file size or something, please let me know. If there were another converter out there that worked i'd try it, but this is the only one i can seem to get to work well for me. Everything else doesn't do the Amv, and like i said i have 3.57 because it does a good job filling the screen and all. Thank you in advance for any help or advice that you could give. And i wholeheartedly agree, the three best things about chipods are the price, the fact your not handing your money to apple, and the obsession. Grimlockwheelie. |
i already tried downloading the 3.57 converter but it doesn't do the setup it just freezes can any one help me pleeeeeese? i've had the 1.8 mp4 player for about 8 months and still can't get the video to work
|
roxy242003, you might want to give this program a try for the 1.8inch screen > http://www.mympxplayer.org/amv-conve...mod-df541.html
|

|
I followed the link , downloaded the files and converted my videos - now, it works GREAT :D
