http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce.../instlnt14.htm If you have 512mb ram you should set it to 1.5GB. |
Re: DISK FULL
tadad1,
Thanks for the link and I have set the virtual memory for all my drive partitions. Will let u know the result Is there any other tool similer to pocketdivxencoder for encoding? Have u tried the tool "virtual Dub" ? |
prasanna,
I use VirtualDub most of the time as it enables me to resize to 160x120 before conversion. It outputs a much larger file 6-7GB but I have no problem converting then. I also convert them into 4 or 5 files rather than 1 so that i do not have to start the video from the begining if I want to pick up where I last left off. You can also set a start anf finish point and cut out credits et. which reduces the final file size. VirtualDub is a bit trickier to use but this helped get me started: http://www.s1mp3.org/wiki/index.php/Video_encoding |

Just now I tried converting to AMV after setting my virtual memory but no change the result is same it converted only 40MB :( If I use virtualdub, is it possible to convert VOB files to avi? |
prasanna
Just out of curosity, have you tried converting ANOTHER .avi file instead? Maybe it has something to do with PocketDivxencoder after it converts the file? I would suggest try a .avi movie you've downloaded from the Internet, then try converting that to .AMV. I also strongly recommend you use ver 3.68 of the Convert Tool to eliminate possible problems with that. You can also increase the swap (paging) file. 1. In Windows 2000, right click on "My Computer" then "Properties". 2. Click on "Advanced" tab at the top. 3. Click on [Performance Options] button. 4. Under "Virtual Memory" click on the [Change] button. 5. Choose the drives you want the swap file to be in. Change the "initial size" and "maximum size" to be the SAME. The formula is RAM x 1.5 = MB for swap file. But I would suggest you try some other .avi movies which are large and convert using the 3.68 tool instead and see what happens..... |
prasanna,
Sorry VirtualDub will not convert .vob files. I am running out of ideas to your convesion problem as well. Try 3.57 it's the version I use otherwise you may ahve to do your conversions on another PC, not practical I know but I think the problem may be related to your laptop. |
Re: DISK FULL
Admin,
I will try that option also.I have a .avi file downloaded from internet around 700 MB which got converted successfully earlier. This problem i think may be I have copied a DVD using DVD shrink and then converted the VOB file to AVI using pocketdivxencoder. R there any tools to convert VOB files to AVI apart from PocketDivxencoder? I tried AMV convert tool also as it says it can convert VOB files but it gives error. prasanna |
Re: DISK FULL
Tadad1 and admin,
Sorry guys for troubling u some much. Hope it gets solved quickly. Prasanna |

That's ok, we're here to help. DVD Shrink should conver the .VOB to .AVI. Try then using that AVI and converting it straight to .AMV instead, bypassing the PocketDivxencoder and see if that works... Let us know. |
