Default [solved] Choppy audio when playing converted AMV file

Thanks everyone who makes this site. It is truely a one of a kind site. Here in the USA to find AMV or MTV support is basically unheard of except here!

I finally was able to convert my itune d/l podcast videos to amv (M4V to AMV) using the mp3 utilities 4.0 and the Cole2k Media Pack codec's. The AMV files play fine on computer but on MP4 player the sounds are choppy almost an echo reverb in back ground. I tried the sld codec pack (and yes I did uninstall the cole2k first) and the new codec caused the program to error and not convert the file. Do I just have a low quality (yes, ebay bought from Hong Kong!) player?

mr.techman,
You may need to experiment with settings until you get the desired outcome. There seems to be slight variations of tolerences between players. For example I have to use 12fps when encoding AMV files at 160x120 or else they will not run on my player whilst others have no problems with 16fps.

Do you have the same problem when converting .avi or .mpg etc. ?

I know that ver 4.00 has problems so I was thinking is, try uninstall ver 4.00 and install ver 3.68 instead. Try converting ur mp4 file using v 3.68 and see what happens.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help!
I finally solved the problem by accident.

I got so mad at the choppy audio, installing and uninstalling codecs and converters.
It had nothing to do with the converter or codecs or the MP3 Utilities. It was the darn firmware!!!

Well I upgraded to V3.5.37 (of course after I backed up my current firmware)

My player on the setup screen identified itself as a sc85051c board. I used the MP3 Player utilities 4.0 to u/l to it, after I d/l the Italian firmware file. I then changed it to english and I was amazed. It didn't even erase the files I had on the player. Seamless transition and this firmware makes my player look a whole lot better! The AMV files that were choppy and slow are fast and perfect.

Wow, so you're saying updating the firmware on your player to ver 3.5.37 fixed your problem???

I didn't know that!

Can you show us what kind of player you have? That's definately something worth mentioning. I always try to discourage people from updating someone else's firmware because of the issues with 'dead players' (reading the "Dead Players" section of this forum, you can see why)..... But heck, if it works on your player, it would be definately interesting to note.

What was the original ver of it?
