Default (Solved) DVD .vob files ?-Can these be converted to amv ?

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a dvd off e-bay which contains a load of music videos. The guy says they are in standard Dvd .vob format and can be converted for use on MP4/MPX Player .

Is it possible to do a direct conversion of these to amv using amv converter 3.68 - or would I need to do some other form of conversion first ?

Thanks very much in advance

Regards

Si

Simonski, Provided you have the right codecs installed on your PC AMV Converter will directly convert .vob files.

Hi

Thanks for reply - I seem to have just about every codec installed inclsuing the pack ( sld ) from this site - so here fingers crossed - it takes a bit of getting used to, all these various formats, and knowing whihc can be done, and which to avoid - still I'm learning !

Off to ebay now to buy the disk

Cheers

Simonski, I tried converting .VOB files directly but somehow it didnt work even though i have all the codecs installed. If it works for u then well and good otherwise first convert them to .AVI files and convert those AVI files to AMV using the converter.
For ripping the DVD VOB files u can use DVD decryptor I found it fast.
For converting VOB to AVI u can use PocketDivxEncoder.

hope this helps

From my experience the AMV converter will not convert the VOB, the AMV program can't convert all files, i have tried xvid, rm, mv4 and some avi that did not convert, i just got the error message.

I had to use other programs to convert them into normal avi files, which i then could convert to AMV files. I would recommended using virtualdub or tmpeginc to convert them, also www.vcdhelp.com has a lot of step by step guides on how to convert various video formats using particular software.

Hi Guys

Thanks for responses - I have downloaded pocketdivxencoder ( although it wouldnt place it on my system as a stand alone application - seem to have to download via a link everytime I want to use it ?? ) , and DVD Encryptor.

I have a couple of problems though - hopefully though not essentially mpx related, someone may be able to point me in right direction ?

1) The four dvds I bought of videos - run via an animated menu system - I've tested these in WMP 10. Two of the disks play both audio and video fine ( Videos assumed to be in .vob format) - but the other two play purely the video. I've since purchased a further dvd same format of video collection, and the sound wont play in WMP either - is this an audio codec problem assosciated with WMP?

2) When analysing the drive letter for the workable video files, the list is not recognisable as say a list of the artists + video tracks- the list appears almost meaningless. Is there a way that I can "break-down" the files contained into individual videos, which I may wish to convert to play on the mpx player ? ( Using DVD Encryptor as the primary converter )

This is turning out to be very hard work.
By the way, I have the SLD Codec pack installed - so not sure what else I'd need to get WMP 10 to play the audio - any ideas guys ?

Thanks for the support !

Cheers

Si
