[solved] Problem with AMV convertor - can't convert files

Thanks to this site, I have just downloaded the program to convert my files into AMV format for my mp4 player. The problem is that I can't convert certain files.

I'm not sure, but I think I am suppose to be able to convert .RM files? What about .RAM, .RMVB, .avi? Because none of these (and certain .avi) won't convert and a problem comes up saying:

"amvtransform.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Please help me to tell me how to fix this as I would really like to convert some files that I currently can't.

Thank you very much

Oh yeah. By the way, I was also wondering how I could convert DVDs onto my mp4 player? I tried.. but I ended up with "complete" but there was nothing. Thx

Tina, you need to install video codecs on your PC so that the software can decode and then re-encode the video.
I suggest you install the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack as it contains all the files you need to convert different file types. You can download it HERE Once installed you should have no problem converting the files. Not sure what version of AMV Converter you downloaded but version 3.68n is a bit more stable than version 4.0.

DVD's are better converted to AVI format before converting to AMV format you can find other software in the Download>Tools section for doing this and if you look in the Video related forum you will find a few posts on different methods of conversion that others have used to get the best results.

Hope this helps

Re: Problem with AMV convertor - please help!

Thanks a lot, but for some weird reason, I can't download it. It comes up with, "is not a valid Win 32 Application"

Are there any other similar codec packs that are smaller that I could download and would help fix the current problems that I have? K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is a very large file and I'm afraid that it would take too long to download.

Thank you so much for your help

Thank you very very very much tadad1! You have helped me so much. It works perfectly fine now all thanks to you. I don't think I have any problems now but if I do, I'll definitely be asking around this forum.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
