AMV Player (all versions) plays first 3 secs over and over
Hello
on my PC, AMV Player only ever plays the first three seconds of any AMV file, then it goes back to the start and starts playing it again, over and over. This happens with all versions, I've tried 4.03 3.68 and 3.57. OK, so, it's not a big deal because my ChiPod plays the AMVs I've made well enough. But, I'd like to be able to play them on my PC too. ChiPods are great, except mine came with the Worm.Win32.Delf.aj virus on it! It was in this location on the player: recycler\recycler\ and "autorun.exe" was the virus filename. It is an easy virus to kill, luckily. Kaspersky saw it straight away. Details: http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/...virusid=121631 I bought mine from update8888, if you got yours from him, check for viruses first! |
phantomflanflinger, This happened to me once and i uninstalled the codec pack and then reinstalled it and it worked fine.
Thanks for the details on the virus. I have not heard of this happening before. |
I tried that and it didn't fix it. Or do I have to restart to fully reinstall the codecs? I don't want to do that right_now as I'm seeding a torrent.
Also: one of the files inside MSI.CAB (in the MP3 Player Utils Installer) is regarded as a virus by Kaspersky 6, although I'm sure it's mistaken. As you know, the software comes on the driver CD with ChiPods, it did on mine, but an old 3.0 version - which led me here in the first place. However, the virus on my ChiPod was definitely a virus. |
Follow-up:
Restarting didn't fix it. 3 seconds, over and over. I let this virus install itself originally, I though Kaspersky was overrreacting, it immediately found it when I connected the ChiPod. A counterpart to the exe was an autorin.inf on the ChiPod which activated the virus install as soon as the drive was properly mounted to my PC. The virus installed a .exe called wincfg.exe into windows\system32. It made Notepad open a file with some Chinese characters (boxes to me) open at bootup, and nothing else as far as I can tell. wincfg.exe ran all the time the PC was on, but didn't appear to do anything. Quite a few viruses call themselves wincfg.exe. The player I've got is this one: http://stores.ebay.com/Happy-Digital...QQftidZ2QQtZkm Which I got a month or so ago. If update8888's got viruses in his network his customers won't be posting nice feedback about him. |
Re: AMV Player (all versions) plays first 3 secs over and ov
Anyone know of a different AMV Player app for PC?
I've Googled the question and just found different versions of MP3 Player Utilities and dead ends. By the way tadad, re. my thread you locked, my screensaver turns itself back on (and turns black & darkle off) if I even SELECT screensaver in the LCD menu, (just to check that it's set to 0). Not a stupid thread! & Problem solved. |

I've never really had this problem to be honest. I wondered if this is because of the virus? I have seen a similar virus put on VCD discs to prevent you from copying it. It would install the wincfg.exe and autorun.exe to 'counter' CD copying software from being able to read the disks. I don't know why they would put that on an MPx player though? Have you ran "msconfig" from the [start] --> [Run] menu yet? This will tell you what programs start up when Windows starts and you can disable it from the [Startup] tab. Check that in case that's stuffing you your AMV Player. What you can also do is create a NEW USER account (with full admin rights). Then install the MP3 Player Utilities again under that NEW USER account and see what happens? Let me know of the result. |
phantomflanflinger, If you mean your post HERE it is not locked. Unfortunatly you need to be logged in as a Member to reply to posts in all the forums except the Video Related forum. Not sure why this forum is different but if you register an login as a Member you will find it is still open. That aside glad you got the screensaver sorted.

Hijackthis is better than the basic msconfig for that, but anyway the virus was wiped, it's definitely the player. It doesn't always stop after 3 seconds, sometimes it's 7. The Jesus superstar sample AMV got to 11 seconds, which was a record. Disabling repeat stops the repeat of course, but that's not the problem.
If I don't fix this it doesn't really matter because the ChiPod plays the AMV files OK, but, I'd like to get hold of some different software to play AMVs on my PC. If a program doesn't want to work, I just get another to do the same job... except this time I can't find another. |

Re. viruses, read this thread:
http://www.mympxplayer.com/dload.php...file&file_id=2 Same thing happened to me, but Kaspersky was wrong, the files in that CAB directory are harmless. It was right to kill the one on my player though. I've joined now. I'm interested enough in these I suppose. :) |

Welcome aboard and thanks for registering :). There's a lot more to these players than just what you need. Heaps of options to reskin it, modify it etc.... So, is your computer ok now? |
No, the AMV player on my PC doesn't work and it ain't gonna, but the AMVs play fine on my ChiPod.
Unless you mean the virus? It wasn't a very harmful one anyway, as I said in the other thread. A virus that kills your PC doesn't spread itself very well. I e-mailed update8888 and told him about the virus and he e-mailed back and said "Hello dears, thanks, maybe we can do business again sometime". I've downloaded the firmware editing appz from here, I think mod my ChiPod when I can think of an appropriate theme to create. The manual that came with it was impenetrable Engrish, but the onscreen GUI etc. was easy to understand. So, I think I'll mod the GUI to be Engrish as well. I could call the theme 'Darkle'. |
So, the site's back! Thought I'd lost it.
But this problem never went away. :( |
Bump!
My problem never got fixed, just thought I'd try to make a few more people see this thread. Is bumping allowed here? I hope so. |
