Default Audio sounds screwed up when a video is played (Solved)

Hi

I have a mp4 player, which looks like much like this : http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoser...39270_full.jpg

Its firmware version says:

S1 Mp3 Player
Wilson Co. Ltd
Version : 3.2.08

I tried searching the forums but have found no answer for my problem. What happens is i can put and listen to audio files on the player fine. But when i put a .MTV video on it the video looks fine, but the audio u can barely hear and over the top of the sound is a wierd disorted kind of sound, hard to explain but its a bit like a jibberish sound lol. Its very annoying and i cant watch/listen to any videos.

I tried a MP4 off this site the: Santana_-_Im_Feeling_You_MTV_format, This did the same thing, video looked fine but audio terrible, it has happned for all videos i have tried to play. I have used the 3.06 Mtv conversion program. I used the 3.00 version that came on the cd and some mpeg files when converted were ok on the player. But nothing else and since thing i have lost the cd and reformated so i had to use 3.06 to try to convert.

Anyway i really hope someone has an answer for me, Thanks so much for your time,

Craig

NZNillskill,
I am not familiar with the MTV format as all my players are AMV. You mentioned that some of your conversions were fine, while others had bad sound, was there any difference in the original file types or were they the same.
Has this only happened since you formatted your player?
Was there any difference between the files you converted with 3.00 and 3.06.

NZNillskill, Lets rule out the conversion process before getting into the firmware. Try installing the Mega Codec pack HERE then try using 3.06 to convert a couple of files. If you can convert a couple of different formats like AVI, WMV, or MPEG and see if there are any difference.

OK done some searching, this is a common problem with MTV conversion.
MP3 Utilities 3.11 has seemed to fix the problem for some, you can download it HERE

Craig, MTV format uses no compression so file sizes are generally very large. I found this which may help in reducing the size of your files to save disk space on your player. Where the screen size 96x96 is substitute your players screen size instead.
1)Get virtual dub, make sure you have all the latest codecs.
The first thing to do to reduce a big amount of MB by resizing your complete movie to the players out put size, in my case my player has a 96x96 video output size.
So open your movie in virtual dub and add a resize filter , type your size,(96x96).
Set the compression, use divx 6 and set the template profile to “portable”, set the bitrate to 256 (you can play with this setting see best results v/s size).
Now set the audio compression to mpeg 3 layer and select 56kb/s , 22500 hz, stereo(this doesn’t reduce much size, keep best audio compression).
Ok now save your new file (save as) and let it work a while.
You’ll get a file 3 times smaller than the original,i reduced 356 mb to 96 mb. This way.
Now when all is done convert to mpx or mtv depending on your player.
I get exactly the same quality in my player.
From the old big file v/s the new size reduced one.

Hello,

Wow virtual dub, is very helpful! thats amazing how much mb u can reduce it by. I tried converting all 3 formats : avi,wmv and mpeg. Tried them on player and still same problems Video is fine but audio is all screechy and jibberish. Not sure what to try now.

Thanks, Craig

NZNillskill, You could try extracting your firmware from your player using s1fwx then run the repair.bat then load it back to your player. s1fwx can be downloaded from Download>Tools section.
Have a look in the Knowledge Base and you will find some guides on how to do this.
Did you install the codec pack?
Did you use 3.06 or 3.11?
I have also uploaded 3.13 to the download section but it will not be available till admin authorises it.

5:20am going to bed.
