my mp4 player sony s-948 can't play video smv file

i have the mp4 player sony s-948 ,it have the video smv file there of the producer and my device can play it ,but when i use smv converter to convert my video file to smv file at 96X64 ,my mp4player can't play it.
what do i have to do now,all firmware upgrade tool can't detect my device
