Hold the press - Opps just noticed I am only getting 100MB of the 1GB to show up on the disk. What did I do wrong now?

richierich,
Glad you got it going sorry you only got 1GB though.

Next time you are in China do not buy over 2GB as 4GB and 8GB chiPods do not exist. If you can look at the players memory info in the settings menu I am told with a hacked player with just the few sample files on it, the amount of free space will be roughly the chip size. So if you are looking at a 2GB player and the memory info shows the player 3\4 full it is most likely only a 512MB chip. I have not had a hacked player to test this theory so can not say for sure.

There is no other AMV converter so you will have to convert all your .mp4 to .avi first. There are a few freeware converters HERE

richierich, The Hynix HY27UF081G2M is 1 GigaBit not 1GigaByte which equates to 128MB.

As Homer Simpson would say "Doooough!!!" you are correct 128MB. Your theory of memory size check to see what is actually on the player makes perfect sense now that I think about it. There were only 2 songs, a movie, and a picture on the player and memory said 102 as I remember. They are very smart sales people though, they have a computer right there and hook up the USB to the laptop and up comes 7.85 GB. What you didn't know it the memory was hacked and you are really getting something much less. What an experience. I a glad I bargained down as far as I did. This lesson alone was worth $40. Thank you again for your help. Can't wait to get back to the Shenzhen shopping center again.

Richierich - A whole lot smarter on Chipods thanks to this forum!

richierich,
If you are buying in China look for name brand players like Ainol, Newman, Degen, and Unibit. These are large companies that trade on their reputation so do not deal in hacked players. You may pay more but you get what you buy.

Thanks for the info here, a friend just brought me back an "8 Gig" I-Pod from china, couldn't get it to load more than one cd. Came across this forum, opened the back of the machine and there was a 128mb card inside. Now at least I know I wasn't doing something wrong.
