Default FIXED! Format Error on Videos I Convert for China IPOD 1.5&q

Hope you can help. I have a IPOD knock off from China 1.5" display (8GB is what my computer says but the AMV converter says 4GB- Must of hacked the disk size) and have tried everything to convert my videos using AMV Convert 357.7,3.68,4.0,4.05 but still can not get them to play. I have the following firmware loaded on the MP player, Device firmware informationDevice Name: S1 Mp3 Player, Productor: Wilson Co. Ltd,Version 3.5.37. These are short videos I am trying to run. It came with an AMV video which runs fine. I have even change the transformsetup.ini file in AMV tools to [Setup]
Overwrite=TRUE
Insertwave=FALSE
Insertpic=FALSE
Transplay=TRUE
Trycode=TRUE
VFBS=middle
VWH=128*96
When I open the AMV file that works in notepad the file looks very different than what the AMV converter is outputing.

The file which works has the following header in the file:

RIFF AMV LIST hdrlamvh8 …E € `  % LIST strlstrh8 strf$ LIST strlstrh0 strf   "V D¬   LIST movi00dc¡ ÿØðXç(¡Gj”^°*¥. –ªIh][ö¥]¶Õ@#w‹ED¨ÆH¥VI¥¾«"´S—…yè‘×£•næ^Œk’X

AMV Converter header looks like this:

USBSÖˆ 00dcÆ ÿØùþŠ(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š( *Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(* Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š( *Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*Š(*ÿÙ01 wbŸ . They are very different. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix my problem so I can enjoy videos on my cheap o MP?

Thank you
Richierich

richierich,
On conversions done on my PC using 3.68 I get a similar header as your sample.

RIFF AMV LIST hdrlamvh8 …E € €   LIST strlstrh8 strf$ LIST strlstrh0 strf   "V D¬   LIST movi00dcJ ÿØôÏN Ó¬•¾éœ±Eÿ ë×

I have uploaded the test file HERE, download it and try it on your player and see if we can not find where the problem is occuring.

Let me know and I will run you through the conversion process I used and see if it helps.

richierich,
OK If your player is hacked this could be causing you the problem. I suggest you try to format your player in FAT to remove the hack.
I have also uploaded 3 more test files to cover all bases HERE.
Also using s1fwx extract and repair your firmware then load it back to your player with the MP3 Upgrade Tool.
You will find s1fwx HERE, and a guide to using it HERE

Just got off a flt from Hong Kong so my response was delayed.

Ok I reformated the E: drive (to FAT 32). After formating E: exists and now an F: comes up as well when connected to the MP3. What did I do wrong? E: Drive has 7.98GB capacity and F: Drive has 0 bytes capacity. Do I need to delete the F:? Not sure how to do this if I need to delete it.

Repaired the firmware

Reloaded the firmware. (should have known Chinese is the default language – Had to have the flight attendant on the flt back from HKG translate the menus so I could get it back to English).

Reloaded test files 2-6 and still none of them worked. FYI my Firmware Version is MP 3 Player CM60009-501 2006/09/07 ACI_V3.5.35.

BTW when I go through the System Setup menu an select the "Memory Info" option off the MP3 player UI the system locks up and I have to turn the MP3 player off then on to get it back unlocked. Feeling kind of helpless and pretty much a novice. What do you suggest next? Thank you Rich

richierich,
You need to verify your chip capacity by removing the back of your player and checking the memory chip serial number against this list HERE.
You can generally fix the dual drive thing by going Settings>Online Mode and make sure it is set to "Normal Only".
Try doing a double format with the MP3 Player Disk Tool, by going to the Partition Encrypt tab and moving the slider all the way right and format then all the way left and format again.
Let me know your findings.

Well you fixed the problem. I went to the Online mode changed it to Normal, removed the partion using the Disk Manager Tool by scrolling all the way to the left on the partion bar. Reformated the disk and low and behold my 8GB player is only a 1GB player. Buyers be ware on some of these deals. Loaded all the test files you gave me and they all work fine. Just different zooming. :P

I opened up the back cover as you asked to verify the memory and came up with a HYNIX HY27UF081G2M - Yep 1GB of Memory. Man I was taken (thought I had the steal of the century on an 8GB). :roll: But only paid 350RMB or $44 US. Still not a bad deal. This was actually kind of fun investigating this now that we figured it all out. Thank you for your awesome help!

The next time I go to China and pick up another MP3 player how can you easily tell it is a hacked 8GB drive?

PS I have a bunch of movies already compressed in .MP4 PSP format but am having trouble finding an AMV converter which recognizes the converted PSP .MP4 extension. Any ideas on another MP4 Converter I could use?
