amv converter problem, i get sound but no picture

Ok, i recently got a 1gb mp4 player and i use the AMV video converter tool to convert my video files to AMV. For some videos it works fine, but for others I can't see the picture but i can hear the sound. Now I do have all the codecs installed on my computer and im able to play all these video files on my computer through windows media player. So I'm not too sure what's going on. I don't see any difference in the video format of the files that work fine and teh files that i have this problem with.
Some help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

bigm43, What size are you converting to and what version of AMV Converter are you using?

bigm43, What codec pack do you have installed?
Can you convert a small sample of one of the files that you are having trouble with. Just start the conversion and let it run for 10-15 seconds then stop it. Then upload it to www.sendspace.com and leave me a link so I can check it out.

bigm43, I think you still have a codec problem. What codec pack did you install?

i have the k-lite pack installed among other things, and like i said before the video works just fine when i play the regular file on my computer so doesent that mean it's not a codec problem?

ok maybe this will help...i used GSpot Codec Information Applience to tell me what kind of codec the files that arent working are using and what kind of codecs the files that are working are using.
This is a pic of the one that works:

And here's the one that doesn't work:

basically the difference is one uses divx5.0 and the other uses just basic divx?

bigm43,
It can depend on what version codec was used to encode the video originally. For example I downloaded a pack of 8 seasons of south park all in .rmb format, although I could play them all the first 3 seasons would not convert where as the later seasons I had no problem with. I had to install an older version codec to convert the earlier episodes.
The process of reading a file to play and decoding a file to re-encode into another format is a little different as well.
AVi files can also be divx or xvid encoded.
I also have the K-Lite Mega Codec pack installed but recently I had to upgrade the Divx codecs to convert some MP4 files to AVI.

I can only suggest you try some other codec options, if you have the standard K-Lite pack installed try the Mega Codec pack.

I have now got into the habit of preprocessing everything through VirtualDub to resize, crop etc and then converting the VirtualDub AVI to AMV.
