AMV Converter 4.03 don't give me frame rate option

Hi everybody, this is my first post. Sorry for my poor english.
I bought a fake Sony mp4 player, with 2.0 inch screen. I've downloaded AMV Converter 4.03, which has the abitlity to encode to higher resolutions, like 208x156, which is my favorite.
But the resulting .amv file has only 10fps, and I can't set higher frame rates, say, 12fps or even 16fps. I have tried to edit the amvconvert.ini and settings.ini files, but without any result, the files keep coming in mere 10fps.
Is there any possibility to set higher frame rates in AMV Conv 4.03, or 4.05? Or I need to use some lower version (3.68, etc).

bluemonk, The converter is designed to convert at the maximum frames per second that the player can manage without crashing so the larger the resolution the lower the frame rate. The CPU in the player is only around 30-40mhz and is not capable of rendering high frame rates at high resolutions. I found that the best results I got for 2.0 inch LCD player was 208x144 at 12fps which gives a smoother video than the 10fps and the aspect ratio is better suited for wide screen movies.

You will also find you get better results if you pre-process your video with VirtualDub before converting to AMV. This allows you to resize the video, set the same frame rate to the same as the converter which avoids skipping from dropped frames, brightness, contrast etc.

hi guys, i have just aquired a 2 inch player and have the same problem. Is ther much difference between amv vers. 403 and 405 ?
the frame rates are pre set according to screen resolution size and conversion of resolution 208 x176 gives 10 fps.
is there a way you could tweak transform ini file to change this to 12 fps or even 8 fps.
the picture at 10 fps is quite choppy, but viewing full screen is best.
also, new units are now out with 2.2 and 2.5 inch screens,(and even bigger). how would these be for playing at full resolution. i can't imagine the frame rate would be very good in these units.

katsaflias, I have not noticed any difference between 4.03 and 4.05. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to tweak the frame rates but you will get a better AMV if you pre-process the video to resize and reset frame rate so it matchs the AMV settings. Some apps to try are VirtualDub, MediaCoder and WinMEnc.

i have done some reaearch in this forum,and apreciate the way you like to help all.

also, i did try virtual dub and it improves perfomance noticeably.

amv converter v405 produces 10 fps @ 208 x 176

so, are you saying that i should reduce frame rate in virtualdub to 10 fps as well.?
is the chinapod capable of more than 10 fps at this resolution ?? and hence , will there be a vers 407 that can play at higher frame rate??

i have bought mine from eBay, item no 260035963906 if you want to chek it out.

May I add, this unit arrived with a virus loaded in the recycler folder, which loaded automatically when i connected through usb (lucky i had Norton). i was not very impressed with their customer service.

katsaflias, When chipods encounter frame rates higher than they can handle the generally freeze and show a Format Error warning.

I am not sure what rates the 2.0 inch screens can handle, as you have found it is still not possible to convert the higher res settings at higher frame rates but I doubt that there is room for much of an increase.

Personally I found converting at 208x144 12fps gave me better results especially with wide screen conversions. For me the trade off of a few pixels in height for the extra frames is worth it.

I use VirtualDub on all my conversions to resize, set frame rate, brightness, saturation, audio sync, crop out letterbox areas etc.

You can download my settings here if you want to experiment but you may have to reset the cropping to suit your video.

I think as higher res players emerge with bigger screens and greater storage capacity we will see other chips being used and avi format instead of amv.
I am currently testing for review a new player released in China 2.0 TFT, 220x176 16fps xvid .avi. It is packed with features and audio enhancements and goes up to 4GB capacity (2x2GB chips) yet is only slightly dearer than top end chipods.
Review will be out in a day or so.
