1.8" amv video shows unknown lines, sound is fine

This is my player:
http://www.mympxplayer.org/image-asp99.html
Just the brand is "Clubin"
1.8" LCD Screen
Firmware ver:
ACTS16D_37
3.5.37-001
(14.4.2006)

The problem is when I'm tryng to play video's (amv's) in my player it shows some lines like broke TV or divx with wrong codec....the sound is good...but i can't see the video...just mixed lines...
What should I do with this?

BTW:
The amv are OK....they works perfectly in the computer and my other mp4...(IKO Slim 1.5")
And sorry about my bad language...

Thanks alot,
Harel Levy

tadad1 7th Oct 2006 8:50 pm

harel87, What version of MP3 Player Utilities are you using?

harel87 7th Oct 2006 11:51 pm

Version 4.0
And i tried 128*128 files, files in the sample videos in this site, 160*120.....all of them works perfectly on the computer but in the player none of them works...
maybe somthing in firmware?!

tadad1 8th Oct 2006 12:11 am

harel87, Try 3.57 and set it up like THIS

harel87 12th Oct 2006 12:42 pm

I steal can't see the video....it's not making any video error....the sound is good...but it looks like the video codec in the player is not good....
It shows the screen size right.....if 160*120 it seems to be full size screen
128*96 a bit smaller...but the video seems like lines similar to lines in TV dead channel...

\=

I think i'm the first with this problem

tadad1 12th Oct 2006 3:43 pm

harel87,
Are you using any software on the video before you convert them, like PocketDivxEncoder to convert the files to avi before converting to amv?

What codec pack do you have installed?

Can you start a conversion and let it run for 5 - 10 seconds the upload the short .amv to www.sendspace.com and leave a link so that I can look at it and see if it runs on my players.

Also download a couple of samples from HERE and see if they work on your player?

This way we can track down if the problem is with your player or your conversion.

The other thing you should do is format your player.

harel87 12th Oct 2006 4:30 pm

tadad1,
Thank you for tring help me (:

My codec pack is K-Lite (updated ver from www.free-codecs.com)

I've tried the video samples in the site, like I've sad the videos are OK in the computer and my other player...
I uploded one file:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/fmvi6e

I've also tried to format it and it steal doesn't work...

Please continue tring save my player (:

Thanks,
Harel levy

tadad1 14th Oct 2006 12:32 am

harel87,

Did you format in Fat or Fat32?

In the off chance that your player has a hacked memory chip remove any files you wish to save from your player then open the MP3 Player Disk Tool and go to the Partition Encrypt tab and move the slider all the way right then back to the left and press the start button to re-partition the chip.

The sample you uploaded is a little strange in the fact that it contains 19sec of video and over a minute of audio, once the video stops playing the audio continues to run with a black screen.

The video section however seems to play fine on my player.

The only other thing I can suggest you try is to extract and repair the firmware from your player with s1fwx and then reload it.

harel87 14th Oct 2006 9:51 am

I tried all you've sad...can't fix that problem...I think i would download my players firmware and see if its ok...

Thanks anyway

Re: 1.8" amv video shows unknown lines, sound is fine

Greetings to all, I have bought a 4GB chinese mp4 player and as I have been reading until know, I have a hacked memory version and with the same video problem that harel87 has. In fact, since this unit came to my hands, even the sample video plays bad, I have to add that the image looks cuadruplicated with all those horizontal lines, but sound is fine.

The first contribution I will give to this site, is that all of you be aware with those eBay deals with 4 and 8 Gb units from China, Honk Kong, etc. That's my case. I have written several times to the seller and after 2 answers in a Tarzan-like english they only said that they are sorry but the player doesn't play AMV format!, what do you think?.

Other issues are: menus that sometimes can be accesed and others not, no other video format can be played not even recognized. I think there is a firmware malfunction becuase I tried to backup the firmware with the intention of repair it but that option shows a message that reads: unable to repair, the dump.bin is duplicated but nothing about repair info appears.

The firmware is a S1 mp3player, Wilson Co. ltd, version 9.0.43. Mp3 utilities version is 4.0

Pictures, music and radio plays normal, and always, after plugged to the computer shows 2 drives, one with full capacity and the other with 0.

What's you opinion Tadad1? or any other that wants to help...

Thank you all in advance, and congratulations for this very well made site..

Gino.

Hi Gino,
At the moment there is no way to extract and repair 9.0.XX firmware, we will need to see an update of the s1fwx tool before that is possible.

If your player is hacked it is best to remove the hack before trying to address your video problems as they could be because of the hack.

To remove the hack try using the MP3 Player Disk Tool. Go to the Partition Encrypt tab and move the slider all the way right and then back left and press start. This will rebuild the partition. Then format the player in windows using the FAT format.

2 drives showing can generally be fixed by going to the players settings menu and check that the online mode is set to normal only.

I suspect your player is AMV compatible if you were able to play the samle, let me know how you go with the above and then we will look at your video.

Re: 1.8" amv video shows unknown lines, sound is fine

Nice to meet you Tadad1,

and thank you very much for your help. Already fixed the double drive showed in windows after doing what you've recommended. I have a couple of things I don't get it yet:
1.- If I do the partition process and then format to FAT mode, will kill all the software installed?. Because if so, then how will I load all of it again?.

2.- After using the s1fwx tool, I've got the dump.bin file, but I wasn't able to repair it, because the process failed. Does it mean that the backup is defective right?, I say this because I read that if the 2d part is not donde properly, the file cannot be restored safely.

Thanks again, and sorry for so many questions...

Best regards,
Gino.

tadad1 4th Nov 2006 5:49 pm

Gino, Questions is what the forum is here for :)

The firmware is stored in a locked section of memory so using the disk tool to repartition and then formating will not erase your firmware. If there are any files on your player that you want to keep though you should remove them as they will be erased.

That is right the s1fwx will extract the firmware but it will not repair it so the backup will not load to your player. The 9.0.XX series of firmware is for newer chipsets the ATJ2097 and the CTW500, these chips are different than the more common chips that s1fwx supports.

Re: 1.8" amv video shows unknown lines, sound is fine

I forgot to add that the sample AMV video file included with the player never has played right, it showed the problem I have described previously. In fact, after trying with other videos reformatted to AMV, none of them played properly, starting with the sample. I have reported that flaw to the seller and said that the mp4 player doesn't play AMV files  . But that's the only format you find in the main menu, and tried with regular AVIs and MPEGs, and the AMV player section didn't show it, and of course couldn't select to play either...

Regards,
Gino.

tadad1 4th Nov 2006 6:08 pm

Gino1965, If it played the AMV samlpe even badly then it is most likely amv compatible. If it was not it would not have played the file at all.

Can you link me to where you bought the player?

Gino1965 4th Nov 2006 6:27 pm

Yes, I bought this unit through eBay, and the auction is at this address:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3696&rd=1&rd=1

Please let me know if you could enter. BTW, I repartitioned the drive and formatted from window, and after doing it with the FAT mode, always reads FAT32. I tried formatting several times with FAT, and the same. Then I compiled an AMV video, and after playing it, the error continues...

tadad1 4th Nov 2006 7:11 pm

Gino1965,
What size is your player memory being reported as?
What version of MP3 Player Utilities are you using?
Have you installed any codec paks?

Gino1965 5th Nov 2006 5:55 pm

Hi tadad1, I have opened the player to look and the flash is Samsung and after checking their reference page, it turned to be 2GB, the part# is K9HAG08U1M, Mp3 utilities is 4.0. and I have not installed any Codec paks yet.

I was trying to find the board serial but I couldn't see those white letters. The only place I didn't look was below the screen, as it seems attached to the board.

Regards,
Gino.

P.D.: I also tried to find on the net the firmware version of the unit, but no luck, at least with english or spanish sites. I've found the words in two Chinese pages, but couldn't figure out how to retrieve and download it.

tadad1 5th Nov 2006 6:15 pm

Gino1965, Is your player reading 2GB or still 4GB?
For 1.5 amv conversion you are better off using version 3.68 of the MP3 Player Utilities as it is a little more stable.
You also should install a codec pack.
MP3 Player Utilities 3.68 HERE
K-Lite mega Codec Pack HERE

For full screen 128x128 you should set the frames rate to medium (10fprs) when converting your amv videos. This will generally fix Format Error Problems.
For wide screen 128x96 you may be able to use the high setting (12fps)

You should also select the "Try other codecs" option at the bottom of the settings window in AMV Converter.

Gino1965 5th Nov 2006 6:26 pm

After formatted reads 2GB, and tried loading 400MB mp3 music lot of songs and plays well and now checking memory the distribution of free space is well reported.

I have checked properties from the video that came with the player and the others I have converted, they all are 96 x 96. and when converting the others the window of the setup is blocked, which means I cannot access and change the video resolution, but could change from 10 fps to 12, but no change in viewing...

I will download the software and try it...

regards,
Gino.
