Problem playing videos after AMV conv.: scrolling like mad
 

I have a 2GB Nano clone with 1.5" LCD. I'm having problems getting some AMV-converted videos to play properly (using v3.68, because the latest version was only playing the first few sec). An .avi of Lord Of The Rings trailer (widescreen) scrolls so much, you only see one line. While an old Tom & Jerry cartoon (.avi) plays fine. Heres my settings:

Screen size: 128x128
Frames/sec: MIDDLE
IMage Quality: HIGH
Image Focus: Mode 2

Obviously I have no idea how to configure this software properly! Does it matter what the original AVI file specs are? (I thought the software was smart enough to "know" what the proper frame rate settings are necessary for the MP4 player?).

i cant understand what you mean when you say the videos scroll but yes the original avi specs matter.

if your avi file has 25 fps, use high/low fps.

if it has 29 fps, use medium fps.

also, i would suggest using image quality medium in both cases.

michiganjfrog, Have you installed a codec pack, I use the K-Lite Mega Codec pack as it covers most video codecs available.
The AMV converter is actually quite basic and you can improve your conversions considersbly by pre-processing your video prior to conversion. Takes a little more time but I find it well worth the effort.

Thanks for the responses, tadad1 and deepakrr! I tried the settings suggested here, and the scrolling problem with the LOTR video was fixed! The video plays perfectly, even sorts out the widescreen (4:3?) aspect. Other videos have converted fine. However, I'm still having problems with (very) poor audio quality on the movie Borat (avi), despite having checked that the settings I'm using are correct (according to your input). I have every codec known to man installed on my system, and the movie plays fine on Media Player Classic.
(I also have VideoDub installed, but I'd just rather not have to spend time preprocessing videos).

BTW, how do you get AMV v3.68 to remember these settings, or do I have to enter them in every time, because its always reverting to defaults?

poor audio quailty is a common feature in amvs.

why dont you try using virtual dub to increase the volume of the avi. :)

It's not a question of increasing the volume on the Borat AVI, the dialogue is unintelligible at any volume. Its basically screeching and squealing and garbled. The original video plays fine on my computer under Media Player Classic.

I found another problem I'd like to resolve on the Family Guy AVI. The sound and picture are clear (other than the ghosting effect which makes it a bit difficult to watch during scene transitions), but the cartoon has a low-res blocky look to the lines after conversion, despite using high rates in the AMV converter. It looks really crappy, yet I have an old Tom & Jerry cartoon that looks great after conversion. Can anything be done about FG?
