Default Convert MPEG issue

I can happily convert avi,mov,etc but standard MPEG gives problems - loading the file into AMV convert I can preview the mpeg but when I attempt to convert it fails -

Appears to say that a codec file / filter is missing - but if I can review/play this in the window then it must understand the mpeg file and be able to process it. Any thoughts on the problem -

the error log shows the following

2007- 3-18 18:12:56 C:\mpeg\Gold_Game_1.mpg: No find CODEC, connect Source filter and Bmp Grabble filter failed!

2007- 3-18 18:12:56 C:\mpeg\Gold_Game_1.mpg: Please install CODEC for default

2007- 3-18 18:13: 1 C:\mpeg\Gold_Game_1.mpg: No find CODEC, connect Source filter and MPEG-I Splitter filter failed!

2007- 3-18 18:13: 1 C:\mpeg\Gold_Game_1.mpg: Please install CODEC for MPEG-I

2007- 3-18 18:13: 1 C:\mpeg\Gold_Game_1.mpg: Error: Convert completed!(21s)

Try installing the K-Lite Codec pack.

@silenec
First of all, don't install those "Pack Codecs"... they Sux!
Then, remove ALL codecs you have installed on your PC and google the ones you want and install them one by one.

Its not that I haven't got the codec - I can watch the file in the amv convert window - it just fails when attempting to convert it complaining it can't read the codec which it patently can.
