Files like rm and avi are compressed. The player has a pretty slow processor in it. The processor would have to decompress the file to play it, but that is more than it can handle. amv files are low resolution and low frame rate which makes them small, but they are not compressed so the player has enough power to play them. A 700MB avi movie will turn into about 300MB or less amv file. I've never tried a rm file conversion so I don't know how big it might be. 3 times larger seems weird. You might want to try to convert the rm file to avi and then to amv. More quality loss, but the size should be much smaller.
