Help needed with virtualdub

I am trying to convert VOB files to AMV via Virtualdub and AMV Converter and have 2 problems.

1.When using Virtualdub to process a VOB file in accordance with the sticky thread I get the following error:
'No audio compressor could be found to decompress the source audio format (source format tag:2000).'
If i select 'no audio' from the settings it converts the video to avi without problem - but no sound

2. When playing the video on my mp4 chipod it does not fill the screen - it is a window about 1 inch wide by 0.75 inch high (my screen is 1.5 inch square). My player came preloaded with an amv file called beautiful woman - when run thru amv player it shows as 128x128 and this plays at full screen with no problems. If i use virtualdub to convert to 128x128 i get the problem mentioned earlier. whilst processing in virtualdub it shows as a square image - but this doen't happen when trs to my player or views thru amv player - it is shown as a smaller rectangular image.

I also tried xmpeg5 but couldn't seem to be able to save the output file - it seemed to save 'video output file.avi' which was always 11kb and couldn't be opened or played by anything else

1. You don't have the audio codec, that's why it can't convert it. Also, try using VirtualDubMPEG2.

2. Try converting the video to 160x120.

Re: Help needed with virtualdub

Had another play and have managed to sort the videosize - i was doing all the right stuff in Vdub, but the AMV convertor was set to 96x64, so changed it to 128x96 or 128x128 depending on aspect ratio

just need to sort the sound - what audio codec do i need for virtualdub to convert the sound

Sound too low on mp4 player when playing video

managed to get the sound on a cartoon, in Vdub I got errors when choosing 'full processing mode' for audio - i can only get it to work with direct stream copy.

The only problem i have is that the sound is very low when played on my player - is there any way of boosting it. the sample that came with the player is reasonable - but i cannot match it.
