Default AMV convertor 4.09 worked once

Hey everyone, Ive been lurking on this forum a few days while I did some checking into the pros and cons of generic MP4 players.

Patiently awaiting the arrival of some variant of the 2GB Glacier MP4 player now.

Anyway, I downloaded the MP3 tools (ver 4.09), and converted 1 divx copy of the simpsons I had, worked great, tested and all appeared well.

Tried the next episode, it sat for 20min with the status saying converting, but the progress meter not progressing.

no changes were made to AMV convertor, thinking perhaps the file I was working with was perhaps dodgy, I tried the original episode again, freeze again. I notice in the dir, a file is created, but never gets beyond 1kb in size, the first one i did dropped from @ 178m to 55mb using 128x96 (is that the right one for my 2" screen?)

Do I only get one go at this thing, if so, I would have chosen a longer file

any thoughts on what the heck Im doing wrong?

cheers, Eddie (vx255)

128x96 is for 1.5 inch screen for 2.0 inch try the largest size setting, I do not recall what it is exactly.

For your conversion problems try uninstalling and then re-installing 4.09 and re-installing your codec pack will fix any codec problems that may have occured.

Hmm, tried reinstalling everything, its still a one hit wonder, if I uninstall and reinstall just the amv tools, I can encode no problems.

so, technically, at the moment, if I install/uninstall between every conversion, I can convert my entire divx collection

Im filing this under general weirdness.

any thoughts?

Eddie

Try 4.07 or 4.05 and see if you have the same problem.

Tried 4.05, same problem, uninstall, re install, encode 1 more file.

selected half a dozen 20 min files to see whether it would do a "batch run" but to no avail, did the first file (after a reinstall), then hung on the second.

I'm really confused, I mean, obviously everything works, just it gets hung up after the first encode.

anyone else had similar?

My player will slowly make its way from china to Australia (lashed to the back of a sea turtle I guess) , so Ive got at least 3 weeks to get it sorted before it arrives.

thanks again, Eddie

Eddie, not a problem I have ever struck or heard of before. So lets start with some basics:

Download and install K-Lite Full Codec pack just to make sure you have the latest codec versions for encoding and no conflicts. Then reboot and try another conversion (or 2 if you are lucky)

Pure genius, downloaded the codec pack and all seems right with the world, just need to go and reassociate some file types with my preferred players and everything will be perfect

thanks again, Eddie
