Is there anyway to change the frame rate with amv converter. I've been trying it with virtualdub but it keeps crashing about 3/4 of the way thru saying no disk space. Does VD need more than 53g to convert an hour long movie? Thanks

Action chipsets do not have the grunt to display higher res video at decent frame rates. Generally the larger the res the lower the fps.
208x176 at 10fps but I found 208x144 at 12fps gives a better aspect ratio for wide screen movies and smoother video.

From memory version 4.10 offered 10fps or 16fps at the highest resolution but not all players can manage the higher frame rate.

If you are using VD just to change the frame rate then choose "Direct Stream Copy" from the Video menu and then set your frame rate to match your AMV conversion. If you want to resize, crop etc then you need to setup some sort of video compression (xvid, divx).

Changing the frame rate to the same as your AMV frame rate will result in a smoother AMV video but for instance if the AMV converter is converting 208x144 @ 10fps changing the original video to say 16 fps will not make any difference you will still only get 10fps in your final AMV.

So Are you telling me that the program sets the frame rate by what resoluyion you have selected and if so are your examples the actual values used by the program?

The frame rates are preset yes. The sizes and frame rates I quoted are based on some conversions I did when the Glacier first came out but I do not recall what version of the AMV converter I used.

If you want to find the fps for each resolution start a conversion for each size and let it run for 10-15 seconds and then stop it. When you play the resulting AMV file on your PC using the AMV Player right clicking on the picture while it is playing selecting properties will show you the res and fps.

Although the Action chipset players are the most common they have really become outdated now by the Rockchip players which use AVI format at around double the frame rates that AMV players can handle.
