Default AMV or DivX/AVI

I am to buy one portable media player for pictures and movies and music. There are lot of Chinese products on eBay. Most need video conversion to AMV or MTV first before they can play it. How does 160x120 AMV file look on 320x240 resolution screen????

Also, I heard AMV is not a good quality video. So there are some players available that play DivX or AVI. Should I buy those instead of the AMV video players. One thing that I dont want is encoding a video file many times from one format to another just to get the perfect format which would look beautiful on the player. I never owned any portable player before, so need your opinion which one should I choose. Please guide me. Thanks.

prabhg, Players that support AVI are the better option as they generally run the more powerfull Rockchip cpu and are a little more stable.
