Two AMV issues
Hello :)
I've read the guides on here, use virtualdub, have tried the various versions of AMV convertor and have pretty much sussed everything out my by myself :) But I have two little niggles. 1. When I convert a widescreen movie to AMV, either it cuts off most of the picture to one side or the other, OR it sqaushes it all up so it keeps the entire picture but the aspect ratio is warped to 4:3. (this depends which version of the convertor I use, I've tried a few) I know I could crop the video to 4:3 first, but is there not a way to keep the video in it's original aspect? 2. Once on my mp3 player (Chinese nano copy - Veho 4gb, 1.8 inch screen) the videos stutter every couple of seconds. I'm 100% certain this is the conversion from 25 to 16 frames. I read the virtualdub guide on here which suggests changing the frame rate in there, but this only slows the video down and puts the audio out of sync. Is there a way to convert from 25 (or 30 or 24) down to 16 but keep the speed of the video and keep in sync?? Thanks for any help, and have a nice day :) |
Re: Two AMV issues
Okay, seems no one here has answers to these problems?
Well that's okay, cos I worked them out all by mesen :) Firstly, I needed to look a bit deeper into Virtualdub, and specifically I had to get Virtualmod, which has further options. Namely, an additional frame per second option which affects playback frames, not speed. 16 FPS still stutters a little, but it was solved by putting the FPS to 12. The aspect ratio I worked out within the resize filter. My MP3 player insists on keeping 4:3 ratio, so I needed to check the resize to equal the AR I wanted, using the width as 160 (my res) For example 16 / 9 ratio needs to be 160 / 90 in resize. I then use the expand option also to 160 / 120. This adds the black bars and stops the picture getting squeezed. Bingo. Only problem I see now is some visible tearing? Anyone have an idea how to fix that?? |
Hi Mozerryguts,
Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply but more importantly, glad you manage to get it working :). When you say "visible tearing" it's hard to imagine. Does the video file play ok in the AMV Player though WITHOUT The visible tearing? Can you UPLOAD your video file to the site please? I'll take a look at it from there for you. |
Re: Two AMV issues
Hi :)
The tearing is like what you see when you play a PC game and your FPS is much higher than your refresh rate on your monitor. If you move quickly you can see the image 'tear' as the frames are updating quicker than the monitor can display them When I play the AMVs on my monitor I don't see this tearing. I suppose at 12fps my 100Hz monitor isn't going to have any problem. But once on the mp3 player, there is tearing (looks like the picture becomes three seperate vertical frames) when there is a lot of movement in the movie. It isn't a great problem. I'm just one of those kind who like to iron out every niggle I can, if I can :) I'll try and upload an example later. Thanks for the reply. |
Re: Two AMV issues
AMV Converter 4.13 does mask the video so that it remains in the original aspect ratio. The difference between the input file AR and the output AR no gets black rather than cut off or stretched/squashed. I haven't tried 4.15 yet, and all the previous one did mess up like the topic starter noted.

Why don't you people actually look through VirtualDub???
Here, i'll give you a hand. http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5...versionhp1.png Does that ring you a bell? As for the aspect ratio, black bars is the only solution to leave it unchanged without cropping. Your choice here. Damn, i'll have to write that AMV conversion guide again! |

The guide here gave info on resizing, but wasn't in-depth enough to solve this issue for me. I worked that out myself. |

It's interesting. Never thought about it before, but the internet has certainly made me mentally lazy. It's a wonderful resource and so on, where a million different pieces of information are but a click away. But I definitely look back to before the internet and remember engaging my brain to help me work things out more than I do now, and it was always more rewarding that way. Oh well, it's here now . . . |
