smv files/converter problem

i bought mp3 with avaibility to watch .smv files but when i convert 13 mb music clip to .smv file, the file expands to 130 mb size .smv video ;( bad converter or what? is it normal that the .smv video is ~10 times bigger than .avi video? if yes then it's sick ;(

Save with VirtualDub into uncompressed AVI first (will take A LOAD of space) and use the SMV converter to convert from that uncompressed file.

That will give you maximum compression ratio, it can't get better than that.
