Your mp4 player isn't stupid in any way...
it's just have limitations...
all videos or movies must fit exactly in your screen:

Your machine is a Rockchip, then your video setting are the following:

Video Codec: Xvid
Video Size: 224x176 (It has to be 224 not 220)
Frame Rate: any... 20 is enough, in some machines can be up to 25
Audio Codec: mp2 (MP3 won't work)

This is what your movie has... then all your movies must be like it... the main trick is what is in bold
specially MP2 <-------- no all converters manage mp2
and not all converters are capable of change size to 224x176,
in Xilisoft "Mp4 Converter 3" this is possible 224x176 (manually set)

I can't understand why people have so much trouble playing videos on a Rockchip.
I found that the simple AviConverter I got with the player worked just fine from day 1 and should do for most users.
I just needed to select the 220x176 resolution from the drop down, It's true as DaremoS says, it does actually need to be 224x176, but AviConverter makes it that anyway even if you select 220x176, just check the file properties.

Maybe I'm just lucky but everything I seem to throw at it works, mpg's, vob files even a .mov file worked for me.

First off, have you formatted your player? See How to Remove a Memory Hack. Format errors are common on hacked players.

The hacked memory tricks your computer into showing the false memory and allows you to "download" songs or videos to it. What it's really doing is only writing part of the file or it's a ghost file. Then when you try to play it, it shows up Format Error.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but there is a possibility your player is hacked especially if you bought it off of eBay.

When you play you video in your computer, not in the PDA, is the image rotated?

Hi DaremoS

Just had to check!
No its just fine the same as on the player, seems all these players are just a bit different hardware wise even if they look the same

Hi booboo773
Rockchip players often show "file format error" when you try and play a .avi when the resolution is wrong for the player screen size.
I know on other players it can be to do with hacked memory but on a Rockchip it's a bit different.

Good to know. 8) I haven't had that problem with my Meizu, but my hacked chipod was throwing format errors at me from the start.

booboo773,

We are talking of rockchip machines without memory hacking problems, then Rockchip based devices must fit precisely the following settings:

video codec xVid
video size 224x176. Some Rockchip devices required video turned 270°, which is 176x220
fps up to 24.00 fps (25.00 fps don't work)
audio codec MP2 (this is the most tricky part, most converters doesn't offer this option)

AVIConverter 4 (downloadable here) is a very simple and effective tool, as it uses all required internally:

video codec: xVid
video size: as option appears "220x176 (2.0inchs)" but generate a module of 224x176!!!
(Here is another version here that generate 176x220, turned 270° which can be your case)
fps: resulting video is of 20 fps
audio codec: uses mp2 44100 128

I've choose to use my cracked version of xilisoft to put up to 24 fps and better audio bitrate in my Rockchip device.
For my Meizu device it's easier as use mp3 as audio codec, as most converters, Meizu devices handles 25 fps at least my M3.
Anyway in www.meizume.com you can find latest version of Meizu converters (nicely called Video Converter) but none of them uses mp2 as audio codec, I believe.

Re: aproblem with avi videos " sample video uploaded&qu

Just been looking at some more videos, quality is fine but noticed they are a bit jumpy sometimes.
I think I'll redo some at 24 fps and see if it helps

Thanks DaremoS
