Default Any AMV converts that don't need Windows Media Player?

I have I feeling I already know the answer to this. I guess I should have researched better before I bought the thing. But I guess there's no harm in asking.

Is there any way at all to make .AMV videos without installing Windows Media Player 9+?

ManaUser,

No, unfortunately not. As far as I know, one of the requirement is to have Windows Media Player 9+ to be installed. I don't know specifically but that's the requirement I've been told by the supplier and manufacturer.

WMP 9+ is required. That is, it will work fine with either 9, 10 or 11.

I was disappointed too as i'm running TinyXP which had WMP ripped out, coz i never used it anyway. :P

Thanks anyway guys.

I hate having to install software I'm never going to use just to make something else work. Especially when it's from Microsoft, who knows what it's going to mess with...

Ah well, I mainly got my player for MP3 anyway, but it'll be a shame if I can't even try the video function.

ManaUser,

WMP is by Microsoft so it shouldn't cause any complications in Windows itself.

As an alternative, why not try running Virtual PC instead? That way, install anything you want on the Virtual PC and have it not interfere with your current computer's O/S. Use it to install the AMV Convert Tool, install any codecs you want and convert your videos. All this in a virtual environment so it won't interfere with your existing computer's operating system. Then you can save the converted file onto your 'real' computer.

Hope that helps.

On the contrary, It's been my experience that MS products are much more likely to meddle in places they aren't wanted. I figure MS must think that since they designed Windows that gives them the right to do whatever they want. Anybody remember IE4? (It was really a major Windows upgrade in disguise and caused big problems for some people.)

Thanks for the Virtual PC idea though, I might do that.
