Default Sick of seeing file format error. what am i doing wrong????

I have got past the 1st hurdle of converting my video to .vob. When i use the aviconverter, it converts ok. But when i try to play the video clip on my player, I keep getting file format error. The screen is a 220x176, although i have tryed all the variations, also the variations in quality and aspect settings, but to no avail.
When the usb is in and I check whats on my player, ithe video comes up as a avi. file, so surely i cant be so far off.
I was running the 4.0 version of aviconverter, and have also tryed the 2.1 version which came with the player, but still cant seem to get it to work.
I cant figure out what im doing wrong, are my files too big?? Although surely it would play part of my clip even so.

Did you have a sample video with your player?

Most players display the video horizontally, but some I believe need the vertical aspect, for that there is a special version of aviconverter.

What I mean is your player may be 176x220 instead of 220x176.?
If you do need to your video turned 90deg here is the special aviconverter:-

It's quite common to get the wrong software on the supplied CD!

Hi
Thanks again for a reply. Yes, the player plays horizontally. It has a sample of a woman doing a madonna song on it.(as if that helps!!!) I suppose she's not too bad! Anyway, yes it has to be turned sideways to watch the clip.
I'll try your idea later on and get back to you if it doesn't work.
I need to refresh my energy, after all that plugging and unplugging of the usb!
Cheers again

Thanks for your help. Yipee, Ive got it working, its a long winded process, but the vids are really good.
I use DVD ghost program to copy the vob files. Put those into a folder, DVDs to convert. Then use the Aviconverter to retrieve those vob files and convert them, putting the new avi clips into another folder, video clips. From there i can send them straight to my player!!
The added advantage is that DVD ghost will copy most dvds, so i can watch all my favorite films without boring everyone else.
Theres probably a faster process, but hey, this one works for me.
Thanks again for the help.
