Hi everybody!
It's been a while since the last release... I was too busy with other things / projects, and had very little time to work on viDrop.
The new version has some improvements, some bugs fixed, and some new bugs still to be found... (as always).

The included mencoder version is 1.0rc2-4.2.1, which does not have problems when converting with mp2 audio - the bug from 0.55, when the output file wont play correctly in WMP / MediaPlayer Classic etc.

For mp2 compression I now use twolame codec - it's better than libavcodec's, and is playable on rockchips.

Added a new Resize method - Simple, which just resizes the output video, ignoring the source aspect ratio.

Another improvement is the option to show graphical indication of the mencoder progress and hide the console window.

And finally - there is an experimental option for 2-pass encoding - but it is not working with all codecs or audio/video codec combinations.

There are some other improvements, mostly internal but I can't remember them...

Good luck with the new version!

Good to see the two pass option on v0.56, however I didnt get that far because when trying to download a clip from an URL, a small window appeared and invited me to rickclick the FLV file and save as - which promptly failed to find the said location. I reinstalled version 0.55 which is wonderful. Any ideas why? TIA.

Bytebug, actually you encountered a bug... Which is now fixed (i released a minor update - 0.56.1).

For everyone wondering what happened with Web video downloader feature - in this version I use the online service for downloading web videos - keepvid.com. It supports a lot of sites (youtube, etc...).
viDrop now handles internally only the download from the three bulgarian sites - mp3.bg, vbox.bg, vbox7.bg.
I realized that most of the video sites change their code too frequently and I don't have enough time to change the code and release an update every time some of them changes.

Here are some things that I've noticed:
- when trying to load several files for batch conversion the source directory is not remembered
- converter uses only 1 processor my Core 2 Duo computer that actually makes the whole process longer...can this be improved?
- I manually modify the command lines from notrellis to trellis and nocroma to croma, does that have any real impact on the process?

BTW lokster, your instincts were absolutely correct, there is really no use in converting 2-pass for MPx devices...I see much more use in being able to split the final result in several pieces as a part of the batch conversion process...

Once more congratulation for the fine work!

Lokster... I have a more simple question:

Why there is no support for Divx?

Is there some copyright reason of Mencoder? or...
It's simply that mencoder is for rockchip players... now rockchip is supporting RMVB

Just to update on vidrop 0.56.1 - the web downloader option has reverted back to a small window asking for me to rightclick either FLV or MP4. I assume this is due to the various sites changing their settings? and not Vidrop! This is still my prefered convertor because there are very few youtube videos that do not convert to xvid 320x240. I now use Download Helper which is a firefox plug-in to grab FLV. Keep up the great work Loks.

Hi lokster

I have downloaded and installed the program and see it installing to Program files/vidrop but I cannot find any directory like that or any program or exe file to run. What could my problem be?

Hi Wolflock,

the Exe is called vidrop.exe and lays as usually in \Program Files\vidrop. Please try to build a shortcut on your desktop to this vidrop.exe: C:\Program Files\vidrop\vidrop.exe

Hi ICA77

It somehow did not even install the program. But not to worry, downloaded the updated file at the beginning of this thread and installed that. WORKS perfectly. Many many thanks guys. You are geniuses of geniuses. You are Kings! The program works perfectly and I know have vids on my MP4 player, where before I just had a large collection of Converters on my PC and no working vids on my MP4 player. I am eternally grateful.

Regards
Wolflock
