lokster, you helped me last month.
I have a VX858 and have tried at least a dozen programs and all different settings within those programs.
Got --~~~~~ off and got a VX747 and like it a lot, I still want to get 858 working though.
ViDrop works the best but still after about 8min into the movie it starts getting out of sync.
I'm using viDrop, preset rocketchip 320x240 medium
FFS 22, Motion search precision 6, Bitrate 309, Audio:codec mp2, SRate44100, channels 2, normalize.25, Bitrate 112, also in the extra parameters: mencoder -audio-preload 0.8 -delay 0.1.

Like I said, this gets the best but just no cigar.
Any other things I can try?
Thanks ediii

Honestly... I don't know :)

However, I have an idea:
For video codec select "none", and then add -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=$VBITRATE$ in Extra parameters -> mencoder.
This will override the xvid codec settings that viDrop uses, and will use the standard default codec settings.
Maybe the problem is there... but I am not sure at all... :)
I am not very familiar with VX747, and don't know what A/V codecs it can play. If it can play different codecs (other than xvid/mp2), then it is a good idea to try some other Audio/Video codec combination.

Weird/wrong characters in final movie.

Hi guys,

I realy like this program: viDrop.
Though I still have a problem. Some characters in the subtitles are projected wrongly. I will give you an example:

In dutch, we have a word: éénrichtingsverkeer.

In the subtitle, the é's are spelled correctly. But when I make a movie with the integrated subtitle, it will come out with some russian or something. Some kind of ñ is showed:

http://www.evonise.nl/downloads/pb.jpg

How can I fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Free Open-Source converter for RockChip MPEG4 (XVID) pla

good afternoon,
i have some problems with setup.
my first, the most urgent, problem, is that: i want rip DVD with movie(Snatch) and with Subtitles-Cz. If i tried the all viDrop options (PanScan, Kepp aspect, Add Borders and Don't resize) subtitle weres OK, but the result(video) was bad (video is deformed :( ). if i use (in extra parameters line) '-vf-add scale=320:180 -vf-add expand=320:240:-1:-1:1', result(video aspect) is OK, but the same subtitles on this video are double :( )

thank you very, very much, for yours help
p.
=================================================
my second mysterious is that: if i was convert some movie (DVD) with vers.0.55(and i was use mencoder.exe and mplayer.exe thats built-in on the install pack) my convert speed is ca 60fps, the result is OK for my MP4player, but i cannot play this result (converted movie) in the PC. I try VideoLAN player, MediaPlayerClassic and others. These all players shows the playing time some absurd numbers, nothing played and crashed. BUT if i remove these original files (mplayer and mencoder) and i use these files from the older installation of vidrop (i think 0.53) the converting speed is slowly (cca 30fps) but the result(for my MP4player is OK) i can play also on pc by MPC or VLC.
===============================================
and my last question - I need use viDrop on PC with Win2000. program give me error mess.abou "...Win Init failed...". What should I do to fix it ??

lokster 28th Mar 2008 10:26 am

greenh007,

about your first problem: - the resizing filters in mencoder sometimes have problems with DVDs (or mpeg files). In such cases extra tweaking is needed... (different every time....) Try setting the Resize method to "Do not resize", and then use the same additional mencoder parameters -vf-add scale=320:180 -vf-add expand=320:240:-1:-1:1

about your second problem: again, this is mencoder problem, but try checking "Rebuild avi index" (I doubt that this will help...). Also, after the conversion ends, select the "Fix broken AVI index.ini" preset, and open the converted file (yes, the file you just ceated). Then convert again (it will process very fast), and see if the new file plays on windows (it should be with _converted_converted.avi suffix).

about your third problem: EXACTLY what is the error message displayed?
(and btw viDrop is not tested under Windows 2000...)

Good luck... (you will need it) :)

sein 29th Mar 2008 4:58 am

Hi. I just want to say thank you for sharing such a great utility. I'm using v0.55 and it works perfectly on my Titan US-071, much better than the AVIConverter that came in the original CD.

I've found that the best settings for me are:
frames/seg.: 25
Video bitrate: 300
Audio bitrate: 112 (problems with audio sync occur when I use 128 or higher)
Normalize: 0.25

Ripping a DVD was very easy, literally a piece of cake!

Have you developed other applications for this type of MP4 Players? I'd love to change the graphics interface of my player, but I guess that's quite complicated and I'd have to mess with the original firmware.

Anyway, thank you again for your generosity. I'm looking forward to any new changes you might make to the program.

Hello, need some help here.

I tried running v0.55 but after I double clicked the exe file, I encountered the following error:

_MemInit: Invalid window handle [0x00000000]

What should I do?

I'm using windows 2000 though.

Thanks.

Can I ask to everybody: If you converted anything in version 0.55 - haven't you any problem's with this converted AVI files, nonsense in playing time or anothers error's, in windows avi players ? For ex.MedialPlayerClassic, VideoLAN...???

Thank you v.much

P.S. And, very please, what about yours experiences with vidrop and w2k ?

I have a problem with the time index yes.
Synchronization is fine but the players in both my mp4player and in windows think the converted files are 30+ minutes long (while in fact they're only 3m long). This does make it very hard to scroll through a file, as the moment i want to skip forward it does so for 5 minutes (which is outside the video's range)

any input on this will be greatly appreciated! (So far i love the converter)

lca77 4th Apr 2008 1:15 pm

Try again with the "Motion Search Precision" set to Zero instead of Six.

Not sure if that answer was meant for me so i tried it anyway ;)
No succes: the file has shrunk somewhat but is still 26m long according to the computer- and mp4player. (instead of 3m)

ariel56 13th Apr 2008 1:45 pm

Dear Lokster,

I've tried converter 0.55 not only for my Rockchip AUM player, but also with general resolutions, and it worked very well. A wonderful software!

Unfortunately I've found a problem with sound. It appears to be connected with MP2 only. THERE IS NO SOUND in the converted movie. at the same time MP3 and "copy" modes work fine. I have installed also the old version 0.3. It does not have this problem. Thus, it is a certain bug.

Another problem which I have seen few times is as follows. After the converter finishes the task, following an attempt to open the produced file, a window of the AVI Chunk Player Viewer appears announcing that
"This avi file was not prepared for sequential reading ..."
I close the window twice, then the playback starts. Note that the preview function works well.

Has anybody else these problems?

Thanks.

ariel56 18th Apr 2008 8:43 am

One more bug.

When ripping DVD I consistently obtain avi files with wrong aspect ratio. In particular, ripping a DVD for my COWON A3 (I have a Rockchip AUM player as well) I get from
the original resolution 852x480
the resolution 800x534
instead of the right 800x451.

I've got the reason: strangely the program (mencoder?) reads the resolution of the DVD Vob file as 720x480 instead of the correct 852x480 (that is the resolution reported by the Classik Media Player)..
Taking this wrong resolution 720x480 exactly obtain the above 800x534.

ariel56 29th Apr 2008 9:33 pm

Addition to my two previous posts (see close above).

To the first post:
The same "not prepared for sequential reading" problem appears with flv files. There is no such a problem with the 0.3 version.

To the second post:
The same resolution problem appears with many (not all) MKV x264 movies. It looks like the converter does not accept the frame width larger than 720 and simply replaces it by 720.

lca77 30th Apr 2008 3:41 am

Re: Free Open-Source converter for RockChip MPEG4 (XVID) pla

Dear ariel56,

your problems without sound in converted videos maybe solved by replacing the mencoder.exe by an older version of mencoder.exe in the installationfolder of viDrop 0.55. This replacement has worked well on my PC: viDrop 0.55 produces now perfect videos with mp2-audio inside.

rgrds, lca77

ariel56 2nd May 2008 8:10 pm

Thanks lca77,

I don't think that is the problem, since version 0.3 doesn't have any problems with MP2 (it has others, for it is an older version), though it is based on the same mencoder version. It is a certain bug. Nevertheless I'll try older mencoder version.

Once more:
1. the resulting video files are "not prepared for sequential reading" if the output audio track is MP2.
2. The source resolution is read wrong for some VOB or MKV files. It seems that the program replaces the source frame width with 720, if the frames are wider than it. As a result the aspect ratio is invalid.

ariel56 7th May 2008 7:53 pm

Thanks Ica77,

I was wrong: the 0.3 version is indeed based on the earlier version of mencoder. I've replaced the mencoder in the distribution of 0.55 by the mencoder version from 0.3, which is dated August 2006. The issues with MP2 are indeed resolved. The issue with the resolution persists.

Mencoder wrongly reads the source aspect ratio of many VOB and MKV files.

I think that Lokster can resolve the problem adding the option of resizing without preserving the ratio. The new exact size is to be custom. That option works fine with CloneDVD Mobile, though it is also based on Mencoder and fails in evaluating the right aspect ratio.

As for the MP2 bug, I suspect that the codec configuration file is outdated. At least it is what appears in the Mencoder window when the new version of mencoder is used. Moreover, GOM player reads the output file with good sound, while other players are silent. GOM player is based on Mplayer, the mencoder brother, and comes with its own codecs.

dualchannelaudio

Hi,
i'd like to know if its possible to choose the language (if yes, how), if i'd like to convert a dual sound channel .ogg video into .avi, because the programme automatically converts it with the 1st audio channel. :?:
Thanks for your help in advance: cuko

viDrop 0.56 is out now ! Use the "Check for Update"-function inside of your installed viDrop to get this new version...

lokster 1st Jul 2008 11:56 pm

Hi everybody!
It's been a while since the last release... I was too busy with other things / projects, and had very little time to work on viDrop.
The new version has some improvements, some bugs fixed, and some new bugs still to be found... (as always).

The included mencoder version is 1.0rc2-4.2.1, which does not have problems when converting with mp2 audio - the bug from 0.55, when the output file wont play correctly in WMP / MediaPlayer Classic etc.

For mp2 compression I now use twolame codec - it's better than libavcodec's, and is playable on rockchips.

Added a new Resize method - Simple, which just resizes the output video, ignoring the source aspect ratio.

Another improvement is the option to show graphical indication of the mencoder progress and hide the console window.

And finally - there is an experimental option for 2-pass encoding - but it is not working with all codecs or audio/video codec combinations.

There are some other improvements, mostly internal but I can't remember them... :D

Good luck with the new version!

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Good to see the two pass option on v0.56, however I didnt get that far because when trying to download a clip from an URL, a small window appeared and invited me to rickclick the FLV file and save as - which promptly failed to find the said location. I reinstalled version 0.55 which is wonderful. Any ideas why? TIA.

Bytebug, actually you encountered a bug... Which is now fixed (i released a minor update - 0.56.1).

For everyone wondering what happened with Web video downloader feature - in this version I use the online service for downloading web videos - keepvid.com. It supports a lot of sites (youtube, etc...).
viDrop now handles internally only the download from the three bulgarian sites - mp3.bg, vbox.bg, vbox7.bg.
I realized that most of the video sites change their code too frequently and I don't have enough time to change the code and release an update every time some of them changes.

....

Here are some things that I've noticed:
- when trying to load several files for batch conversion the source directory is not remembered
- converter uses only 1 processor my Core 2 Duo computer that actually makes the whole process longer...can this be improved?
- I manually modify the command lines from notrellis to trellis and nocroma to croma, does that have any real impact on the process?

BTW lokster, your instincts were absolutely correct, there is really no use in converting 2-pass for MPx devices...I see much more use in being able to split the final result in several pieces as a part of the batch conversion process...

Once more congratulation for the fine work!

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Lokster... I have a more simple question:

Why there is no support for Divx?

Is there some copyright reason of Mencoder? or...
It's simply that mencoder is for rockchip players... now rockchip is supporting RMVB

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Just to update on vidrop 0.56.1 - the web downloader option has reverted back to a small window asking for me to rightclick either FLV or MP4. I assume this is due to the various sites changing their settings? and not Vidrop! This is still my prefered convertor because there are very few youtube videos that do not convert to xvid 320x240. I now use Download Helper which is a firefox plug-in to grab FLV. Keep up the great work Loks.

Hi lokster

I have downloaded and installed the program and see it installing to Program files/vidrop but I cannot find any directory like that or any program or exe file to run. What could my problem be?

Hi Wolflock,

the Exe is called vidrop.exe and lays as usually in \Program Files\vidrop. Please try to build a shortcut on your desktop to this vidrop.exe: C:\Program Files\vidrop\vidrop.exe

Hi ICA77

It somehow did not even install the program. But not to worry, downloaded the updated file at the beginning of this thread and installed that. WORKS perfectly. Many many thanks guys. You are geniuses of geniuses. You are Kings! The program works perfectly and I know have vids on my MP4 player, where before I just had a large collection of Converters on my PC and no working vids on my MP4 player. I am eternally grateful.

Regards
Wolflock
