Thanks Fluffbutt,

Phew, full VOB files, that would take abit of storage space on your player for sure!

Do you have details about your player or a link?
Would be interested to know more about it.

Hi Lokster,

Unfortunately I have to once more confirm that version 0.57.2 consistently does not work well with subs. They are absolutely unreadable.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

viDrop 0.57.3 is out. I hope the problems with the subtitles are fixed now, as well as some other problems.

I hope...

Check out the new "Split" feature too.

Unfortunately the problem with subs is still here. It seems that it does not appear in the "PanScan" mode, but persists in the "Add borders" mode, which I like most of all. In that mode subs are added in the lower border, and they remain (are not removed). When new subs appear, they appear over the old ones, producing a real mess.

Hopefully, it is not very difficult to correct.

I don't know whether it is important. The movie to be converted is in the mkv format with subs installed in the file. There are subs in 2 languages, from which viDrop automatically chooses the first (no options are available). The very possibility to install these subs is excellent, since 0.57.1 cannot do it.

Thanks!

It's this one (the top one)

Yes, full vobs take space - but you can shrink them to 4G or about 2.5G minimum. It's not very space effective, because the higher resolution does not get any better on the 640x480 screen. It's better to change them to some other codec at 640x380 res. Mkv works fine, good resolution and the quality is great.

I was just amazed that it played vob full res!

(edited for typos - I'm a cat after all, paws donna work on keyboards well!!)

ajsmicko it depends from the type of the subtitles. If the subtitles are embedded in VOB (DVD) or Matroska file, then it's not possible.
Also, it's not possible for the "Keep aspect" resize method, because in this method there is no black space under the video (your player adds black space if necessary, but the video itself does not have black space).
The subtitles can be under the video only when using "Add borders" resize method.

And this is for everyone: I just released another update for viDrop - http://www.vidrop.vpunk.co.uk/vidrop-0.57.4-install.msi

I had some reports of mencoder.exe suddenly disappearing from the viDrop installation folder.
I suspect this is due to some stupid Antivirus programs detecting mencoder.exe as false positive, because it's UPX compressed ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upx ).
This is why mencoder.exe and mplayer.exe are no longer compressed. This will lead to a bigger installation size ( ~10MB bigger), but I hope it will solve the problem.

Is that the only change? Meaning: If we don't have this problem, do we need to get this update?
