Dear plazma,

most RockChip-Converter uses the Codec "xvid" and FourCC-Codec "XVID", which is encoding with 12bit only. You may see this in the file-details of an converted video on a windows-PC. But if you are using the combination of "MPEG4"-Codec and FourCC-"OpenDivX"-codec, you will get 24bit encoded AVI-videos. These results are indeed much bigger than 12bit encoded xvid-videos. rgrds, lca77

Hi makd511:

To up the volume go to the advanced settings tabbed page then check the normalize box in the middle on the left and move the slider to the right ... I usually convert with the setting at 0.6 ... if you find that distortion is creeping in then back it down ... 0.25 is the default setting with no volume boost nor diminish ...

Also, I always convert at audio bitrate 128 kps joint-stereo and 300 kps video at 24 fps ... even if playing on to my tv via player hook up ... video at 300 kps seems to work fine at 320x240 ... enough detail and reasonable file size ... approx 200MB per hour ... I find this gives good video and that the nicer audio track is worth it ...

I've done hundreds of conversions and lots of settings comparisons over the last couple of years ... to check for yourself, encode a couple of minutes at different settings to compare ...

@jp

I think because of the powerful Rockchip CPU, big hard drive and ability to insert MicroSD cards
you should to choose better quality!
Later I'll find out the biggest bitrate without any freezes on player and will tell you.
My player's CPU is RK2608A.
But don't like touchscreen, that's why happy with 7 buttons!

thanks for that, i am using vidrop to convert DVD to 480x272 res for a 4.3" screen player, i like 512kbps on this size player as anyhting lower is to blocky and it also keeps files sizes down as well, audio i use is 96, again this keeps size down and also helps cut out the sync problems on many of these new player and old ones, and even on these new 27 series rockchips that so arrogantly claim to PLAY ANYTHING!!!!

Does anyone have a problem that vidrop does not play well with aero? I keep having a message that some elements do not work with it and it keep swapping to aero basic for a while. Using vista business sp1.

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

@lokster
After a small research and some help from other people ( http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/631/77896608uo5.jpg )
I've found out why the bitrate is not the same.

This problem appear because you have accidentally deleted some of important information
with a big amount of unnecessary to reduce the size of viDrop.

After I've replaced viDrop's MPlayer.exe and MEncoder.exe (5Mb each)
with original MPlayer.exe and MEncoder.exe (10Mb Each), the problem has gone! :P

So, when you will create the next version (with fixed color subtitles, hope)
please run through the code of viDrop! :P

I normally use the latest mencoder and mplayer from here

@princesschio, thanks for the info. I found that these versions work better with viDrop, and fix the problem with subtitle colors. I will use these versions in the next update.

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

viDrop 0.57.2 is out!

Bugs fixed / new features:
- uses latest mencoder from http://oss.netfarm.it/mplayer-win32.php
- uses fontconfig for rendering subtitles (subtitles look better) *
- instead of selecting a .ttf file for the subtitle font, you can select from the installed System fonts.
- subtitle text / outline color actually WORKS now.
- added 2 more output file formats - matroska (mkv) and ipod (mp4 specific for ipods)
- viDrop now remembers the last used preset name.
- some fixes in the "Resize method" internal video filters (so they work correctly with colored subtitles)
- added listbox with all detected external subtitles in "Input subtitle"

*note: the very first time you open a file with this version, it can take 10-15 seconds. This is due to fontconfig cache being generated. This is done only once, or after you install new system fonts.

You can download the new version from:
http://www.vidrop.vpunk.co.uk/vidrop-0.57.2-install.msi
or
ftp://guest%40learnfree%2Eeu:guest@l....2-install.msi

Good work!
You're the best! :P 8)

P.S. There are a lot of major changes.
Then, why there's minor version change?
Maybe rename from v0.57.2 to v0.6?

makd511 16th Feb 2009 6:40 am

thanks for the update

BTW does this do RMVB i have not checked and if not any chance of including this at all, not sure mencoder supports this

just a thought

lokster 16th Feb 2009 6:53 am

I am planning 0.6 to be a total rewrite of viDrop.
Cross-platform, with better interface and better localization support. Currently It's roughly 70% complete, and works on Windows and Linux (I am developing it on ubuntu). It will support visual themes (skins) too... :) And it will be just a couple of M bigger.
Sounds good, isn't it :)

So... I will stick with versions 0.5** until this version is ready.

:Edit
@makd511 as far as I know, mencoder does not support rmvb, and viDrop - too (for now...).

Is it possible to get an option to keep original FPS?
I always use the original and now I have to check it first.

How is the youtube video download supposed to work? I pasted a valid address but nothing happened. I managed to download the .flv video with the help of DownloadYoutubeVideos.com

I tried to use subtitles. It looks really good with black outline.

However the Scandinavian characters å, ä and ö does not show right. There are some weird symbols instead.

How can I fix this?

Ok. Asking too much, trying too little.
I changed the character encoding and problem solved :)

Hey men! first of all i want to thank you for the awesomeness of this program..I have a sunplus pmp and I am planning to convert my movie files to avi..For some reason ViDrop avi's uses Xvid AVI container 1.0 w/c works in my PMP instead of Avi 2.0..It was great and fast..Im planning to replace WinAvi converter with this one.. I want to convert them with the option "Add Borders" to preserve quality....And I also want the subtitle to be on the black borders...The result was awesome....The subtitle was on the black border...Except I have a bit of a problem...

I realized that when you convert the video with black borders with the subtitle..the subtitle was doubled..I mean the subtitle keeps waiting for the next dialog to show up....the result is the last dialog was underneath the present dialog....

any idea??!!http://mympxplayer.org/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif

btw im using Vidrop 0.57.2
tnks bro!!!!!http://mympxplayer.org/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

lokster 20th Feb 2009 6:28 am

I have found a temporary solution for this bug (until I release the next update):
instead of selecting "Add borders", select "Do not resize", and then add the following parameters to "Extra parameters" -> mencoder

-vf expand=:::::$WIDTH$/$HEIGHT$,scale=$WIDTH$:$HEIGHT$

Note: $WIDTH$ and $HEIGHT$ are "macros" - they will be replaced with the width and height you have selected, so leave them the way they are.

typecastx 20th Feb 2009 7:14 pm

Awesome!!
Im looking forward for the next release...
But for now...
the mencoder parameter works!!!

You ROCK Lokster!!

Hi!

Can you please tell me what settings (audio/video) are you using to convert videos with subtitles for sunplus pmp?
I tried many, but always end up with wrong file type, bad A/V synchronization after few minutes, or with "hickups" every 10-15 seconds.
Thanks!

Thanks, but unfortunately, I still have problem with video hickups every 5-10 seconds (video stops for a short time,
maybe for a half of a second, and then fast forwards for a short time).
A/V also gets out of sync after maybe 25 mins.
Btw, mine PMP is this one.

plazma 23rd Feb 2009 7:49 am

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

The keep aspect ratio option converts the video with the desired horizontal resolution and the vertical resolution is calculated so the aspect ratio is correct.

If you convert 4:3 material with the option 400x240 then the final resolution is 400x300. If your player have a 400x240 display then the player have to rescale it.

Is it possible to have the "keep aspect ratio" to keep the final resolution in the limit of 400x240?

Now you have to calculate the optimal horizontal resolution so the vertical resolution is exactly 240 pixels.

If you convert wider than 16:9 videos then it works ok.

It's not recommended to browse the Internet and use the computer when converting.
You can face some errors only because of that.

The portable versions are useful only
if you're using your friend's computer and
haven't administrative rights, can't install programs.

But they're often unstable, so, if it's your computer, you don't need the portable.

Have you encountered bad A/V synchronization while playing them on your pc?

I had the same problem before using a mini sd card.
when i watch videos using the external card the video plays for a few seconds but suddenly stops.
But when I watch them on my pc or on my pmp internal memory they do play without errors.
My mini sd card is probably wack!

I had also encountered bad A/V synchronization while watching videos on my pmp using the internal memory..
I encountered the problem when I fastforward the video..
When i press PLAY the video and audio is out of sync(video works on my pc without A/V problem)

What I did was
press the BACKWARD button for a few seconds
and then PLAY
and then the FORWARD button again for a few seconds
and then PLAY.

after that the A/V was in sync..:)

And one more thing..
I split my movies into 2 or 4 pieces before watching them on my pmp..

This is not true. I always minimize the mencoder window and continue to work & browse while converting and havent't noticed any problems. Maybe the problem is in your PC?

As for the portable version - viDrop in its "heart" IS portable. Once you installed it, you can copy your viDrop folder, move it between computers, use it on a flash drive etc... And there will be no side effects. viDrop is intended to be used as a portable app (so you can copy it on your players memory, and use it everywhere).
I deploy it in .MSI installer package, only because this way it's easier to do automatic updates.
Also, viDrop does not change or create any configuration files outside of it's installation directory.

Yes, I think I'll have to split file in 4 pieces, otherwise it'll be no good.
I tried different video formats, bitrates (audio, video), but I was never satisfied with the results. Either I get terrible quality with A/V desync at later time, or better quality with A/V desync after 10-15 minutes and with choppy video.
And playback on PC is OK.
Also, playing from SD card or PMP has no differences. Actually, SD card is faster in transfers then PMP memory (768 kbyte/s vs. 512 kbyte/s).
I'll have to try your backward and forward trick. :)
Seems like this P(i)MP "machine" is intended more as a gaming (nes/gb/gbc) emulator than a real multimedia player.

lokster 25th Feb 2009 6:50 am

@iggi
As I have posted many times before:
For audio-out-of-sync problems, try to add

-audio-preload 0.8 -delay 0.1

to Extra parameters -> mencoder

You can change the delay value to anything you like (positive or negative) to fix the synchronization issues. The value is in seconds.
Maybe this will fix your A/V Desync issues.

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Greetings.

There is something wrong with ver. 0.57.2...I usually don't select the options from the 2 tabs but instead have a script (initially generated from viDrop, I admit) tweaked according to the source file.
I took a look at the colour and font to see what's new about it and as much as I could see it made some changes to the vidrop.ini, especially to the subtitles section. What's bothering me is that .ini specifications seems to be taken in consideration regardless of what script says. As a result I had some errors where the specified font was replaced with the default one, the colour of the embedded subtitles turned yellow, and so on.
As a result I downgraded to ver. 0.57.1...

Best regards.

Zido 4th Mar 2009 6:49 am

i also downloaded version 0.57.2 and there i can't pull videos to that green input box. So it is slow to convert more than one file at the same time. it did work on 0.57

lokster 7th Mar 2009 5:25 am

The problem must be in your computer. It works fine on mine. (XP-SP3). Are you using Vista? viDrop is not developed for Vista, and will never be, because I use mostly Ubuntu Linux, (and Windows XP, only when developing viDrop 0.5xx)
Sorry Vista users... :)
Version 0.6 will be cross-platform.

Zido 9th Mar 2009 6:27 am

Yes i use 64bit Vista Ultimate, and on older versions that works just fine.

Hi Guys

This i my first post on this forum.

I downloaded latest version of viDrop and i want to covert my xvid films for my Nokia N95 8GB (240x320). And I have questions.
What video settings will be the best for my cellphone?? (I'm using CorePlayer it plays many video types (xvid too))
What audio codec should I choose (mp2 or mp3??)

And the last question is about Subtitles. Im from Poland and I need polish signs like ę,ą etc. There are many encoding types (iso....). Which type should I choose to see subtitles properly.
