Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

first post aswell so I'll start by saying, awesome program thanks alot.

but since I downloaded the 0.57.2 version, it won't convert anything...
When I press the convert button, all it does is close the vidrop windows, open the black command box then close it and I'm back at the vidrop windows, all this in a second. what is wrong with that version. It never did that with the previous versions.

Thanks for your help

Hi Guys

And the last question is about Subtitles. Im from Poland and I need polish signs like ę,ą etc. There are many encoding types (iso....). Which type should I choose to see subtitles properly.

Greetings tommek82!
Try iso-8859-2(don't be afraid, Google doesn't bite...).

Best regards.

...that is why you can downgrade to 0.57.1 and ta-daaa, you'll be back in business in no time...you'll find the link in one of the previous posts.

....

I had the same issue after I upgraded ViDrop, installing the new version OVER the old one. It was resolved after I DELETED the directory and performed a clean install.

I have another problem: version 0.57.2 inserts subs TWICE, producing dirty unreadable subs. So I used 0.56.2 without these problems. Has anybody the same problems with 0.57 and 0.57.1? Maybe it is better to go to them?

phil2 14th Mar 2009 1:25 pm

thanks, yes it worked... I just uninstal viDrop, deleted the remaining folder and instal it again and it worked.

phil2 15th Mar 2009 4:58 pm

There is a little minor bug in version 0.57.2, when using 2 pass encoding, after the first pass is over, viDrop opens, usualy it stays close until 2nd pass ends.

And I have a question:
Is it possible when ripping DVD to put more than one audio stream or subtitle with the matroska format.

mcgyver83 19th Mar 2009 11:17 am

Hi,I've used this tool to convert a divx for my magnex dts 2600player.
I use the feature that allow to convert only e piece of film (becouse when I exit the video-play function and after I re-enter in this function the film start from the beginning).
I only add at the default setting named PAL rockchip 320x240 hight the value of 0.48 under normalize slide of settings to get more volume.
When I play on my player the produced subFilm the audio come very late...
What setting I have to use?

freddyzdead 23rd Mar 2009 4:12 am

Here is a question for Lokster (or anybody else who can fix the trouble). I think viDrop is the best thing since movies were invented, I use it for everything.

But, I've noticed that when I play a movie on my 32 inch HD television, the diagonal lines are jagged instead of smooth, indicating that the resize algorithm is too crude.

Can a future version add an option to specify the scaling quality? Is there a way to bypass the resizing for now, and specify it yourself on the command line?

I know viDrop is meant for portable devices where this kind of artifact wouldn't be visible, but there's no reason not to use it for everything, is there?

Edit: After upgrading to v.57.2 some things don't work the same anymore. I want to go back to 56 but this isn't so simple. I added the Windows Essentials codec pack which allows for decoding of more functions, so now I can't tell which files are ok to delete.

Another really necessary thing that is missing is deinterlacing. I can do this myself by adding -vf yadif=1 to the mplayer command line but I don't know if this is doing the best job or not.

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Hello everyone!

I just got my first mp5 player today, a Diel Rhapsody for those familiar with the brand... The manufacturer claims that the screen is 320x240, but after a bit of a testing I found out it's actually 400x240 and I even got videos working in it with that resolution, pretty nicely even. :)

First of all I'd like to thank the creator of ViDrop and this great community, reading a few threads sure helped me out in a couple of things.. And this program especially is something I couldn't now live without.
However, I am having problems with certain videos, have a look:
http://xs537.xs.to/xs537/09133/videocropping579.jpg

As you can see, the original video is stupidly in 4:3 format even if it the actual image is really 16:9, which is just the way I want it. Now with the different resizing methods I can get the image either stretched wide or then I can preserve the aspect ratio but have the image surrounded by black boxes from every single direction.

So the big question is: Can I crop the image in viDrop to get the result I'm looking for? I'd love to know if it's possible since I've got many video files with this little annoying problem.

Thanks in advance, I'll be looking forwards to some answers.. Even if the answer were a strict no.

Same problem, but when playing video, push "m"(aka menu button), and menu pops up, and there you'll can select between 16:9 and 4:3, it should help

Thanks Fluffbutt,

Phew, full VOB files, that would take abit of storage space on your player for sure!

Do you have details about your player or a link?
Would be interested to know more about it.

Hi Lokster,

Unfortunately I have to once more confirm that version 0.57.2 consistently does not work well with subs. They are absolutely unreadable.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

viDrop 0.57.3 is out. I hope the problems with the subtitles are fixed now, as well as some other problems.

I hope... :)

Unfortunately the problem with subs is still here. It seems that it does not appear in the "PanScan" mode, but persists in the "Add borders" mode, which I like most of all. In that mode subs are added in the lower border, and they remain (are not removed). When new subs appear, they appear over the old ones, producing a real mess.

Hopefully, it is not very difficult to correct.

I don't know whether it is important. The movie to be converted is in the mkv format with subs installed in the file. There are subs in 2 languages, from which viDrop automatically chooses the first (no options are available). The very possibility to install these subs is excellent, since 0.57.1 cannot do it.

Thanks!

It's this one (the top one)

Yes, full vobs take space - but you can shrink them to 4G or about 2.5G minimum. It's not very space effective, because the higher resolution does not get any better on the 640x480 screen. It's better to change them to some other codec at 640x380 res. Mkv works fine, good resolution and the quality is great.

I was just amazed that it played vob full res!

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

When i insert subtitle using ViDrop....is it possible when you use "keep aspect" or "add borders" for resize method to put subtitle under the video ???

lokster 7th Apr 2009 11:13 pm

ajsmicko it depends from the type of the subtitles. If the subtitles are embedded in VOB (DVD) or Matroska file, then it's not possible.
Also, it's not possible for the "Keep aspect" resize method, because in this method there is no black space under the video (your player adds black space if necessary, but the video itself does not have black space).
The subtitles can be under the video only when using "Add borders" resize method.
----

And this is for everyone: I just released another update for viDrop - http://www.vidrop.vpunk.co.uk/vidrop-0.57.4-install.msi

I had some reports of mencoder.exe suddenly disappearing from the viDrop installation folder.
I suspect this is due to some stupid Antivirus programs detecting mencoder.exe as false positive, because it's UPX compressed ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upx ).
This is why mencoder.exe and mplayer.exe are no longer compressed. This will lead to a bigger installation size ( ~10MB bigger), but I hope it will solve the problem.

Re: viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players

Dear lokster,

Thank you very much for the new release.
Unfortunately the subtitles' issue remains, i.e. in the "Add borders" mode the subs are added over the previous subs' text. The resulting mix cannot be read.

That is what I get:
http://xs138.xs.to/xs138/09153/frame681.jpg

I've just checked: the issue seems to take place with mkv-files having internal subs. With xvid avi-files it does not happen.

In the case of an mkv-movie, how can I choose other external subs, or at least to disable the internal ones?

Thanks a lot.

Yes, this is the only change.

@ariel56 I will try to fix this annoying bug as soon as possible.
Try to disable the internal subtitles by leaving the "Subtitles" field in "DVD Settings / Altrenative streams" empty, or enter "-" in it. Hope this helps...

Hi Zedragon,
Try to make a clean install. Just manually remove the directory viDrop from the "Program Files" directory before installing viDrop. I had the same problem.

Don't forget to download the latest Gilraen v2.0 with a lot of new features,
such as creating the awesome styles for subtitles ! :P
Also it's compatible with viDrop, all you styles created
after converting will be embedded to your movie
and then you'll be able to watch it on your player !

Hi Lokster!
You're the man mate, this piece of software is MARVELLOUS! Many many thanks and compliments

One tiny bug I found: I tried the "split" function and it does split as it says, but it appears to me to produce 5 mins chunks only.
This is because the "Split every >>" value changes the start point for the split (mencoder parameter "-ss"), but not the end point (mencoder parameter "-endpos").

E.g.
For splitting every 10 mins, the code generated is
-ss 0 -endpos 300
-ss 600 -endpos 300
-ss 1200 -endpos 300
...
which produces chunks of 5 minutes (300 seconds) each starting at every 10 minutes (0, 600, 1200 seconds).

I believe that the correct code should be:
-ss 0 -endpos 600
-ss 600 -endpos 600
-ss 1200 -endpos 600
...

Workaround

1. Copy/paste the generated code from viDrop to any text editor.
2. Change the "-endpos 300" to "-endpos 600".
3. Copy the code back in viDrop.
4. Run the batch.

Hope this helps :)

Greetings freddyzdead!

Please accept the fact that ViDrop is intended for users with no advanced knowledges about video conversion. It does a great job and should be used for mobile device with 2-7 inch screens.
For monitors and TV's you should consider other conversion softwares that requires some degree of video conversion knowledges, such as AutoGK or use(learn) the scripting language of Mencoder itself(for that take a look here:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html#CODEC%20SPECIFIC%20ENCODING%20OPTIO NS%20(MENCODER%20ONLY)
), case in which you can paste the resulted scripts in ViDrop's lower screen...

Hth.

Best regards.

Hello the_provider:

Yes, I realize that ViDrop is intended for portable devices and all that. It does a beautiful job. I don't like Gordian Knot; I use Virtualdub for serious work, but it is annoying that I have to go back and start it over to do the 2nd pass. ViDrop kindly does this for you, so it really speeds things up.

The resize filter I use in Virtualdub is Precise Bicubic, which is the only one that I use; any other gives artifacts. So all I want to do is tell Mencoder to use precise bicubic as well. It already occurred to me that I could add it to the command line, the same as I do for deinterlacing, if I knew the command to do so.

I have looked through the Mencoder docs and I don't see any way of specifying the resize algorithm. Maybe I missed it, but I really did look. Maybe it's called something else? Ok, I looked again and found it under "scale", which says also see -sws... it's pretty ambiguous to me; doesn't make much sense.

This is actually a bug in mencoder, not vidrop. I was able to fix it by downloading the latest version of mencoder for windows (link here) and dropping a the fresh mencoder.exe into the vidrop folder. Then tah-dah... no more overlapping subtitles in "add borders" mode.

So all lokster needs to do is release a minor version with a new mencoder binary. Cheers, lokster, for making this awesome app!

EDIT: DOH! Ignore me, the upgrade didn't fix it. It's definitely an mencoder problem though, just need to find the right tweaks. I tried http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ry/009850.html but that didn't do it for me

As much as I understand precise bicubic is the default video filter used by mencoder:
2 bicubic (good quality) (default)
so you don't have to worry anymore. BTW, I always use lanczos in Vdub...

Hi Lokster,

I have a new issue. I've just purchased a new Rockchip 2706 PMP with the resolution 480x272. I've found out that viDrop simply does not recognise this resolution.

Could you please provide a new preset with this resolution?

Thanks!

Edit: The problem occurs in the mode "Add borders" which I like very much.

Edit: The problem suddenly disappeared. Obviously there is some instability of viDrop.

1. Copy/paste the generated code from viDrop to any text editor.
2. Change the "-endpos 300" to "-endpos 600".
3. Copy the code back in viDrop.
4. Run the batch.

Hope this helps :)

Why in the Earth would you want to do something like that, in the first place?
And second, in one of my previous posts you can find a link to Mencoder instructions, look for it and have fun...

Best regards.

Virtualdub's AVI files are not the same as those played by cheap mp4 files. It seems to be a variation of xvid. If you want to use virtualdub in order to append files, boost audio gain, HVC, brightness etc., you will still need to run the file through mencoder to produce the correct avi format. This is the same thing I do. I use virtualdub to add filters and such, then run it through AVI converter (based on mencoder).

Arkadash, why do you want to join files? It makes more sense to split large files...

Best regards.
