How does one set the FPS when encoding into AMV format ?

This is driving me nuts. I bought a bunch of Mp3/Mp4 Players ( Well they are AMV only players ). I have a computer business. I have been messing around with the encoding for awhile now and find it amazing that I can't encode at more than 16Fps. Is this a limitation of the AMV fomat ?? I have read elsewhere that one can encode into AMV format at upto 30fps.

I have tried all the AMV convertor versions on this site and they all encode at a maximum of 16Fps. I think one of the versions has an option to change the Fps to fast medim or slow , but still the fastest is only 16fps .
Needless to say when I play the amv on the player it is very jerky.

It can't be the player as I'm obviously coverting it on my computer.
So whats the solution. The initial file whether it be MPeg , Avi , DivX etc is perfecty smooth. After the conversion it's 16Fps maximum and very jerky.

I read a couple of posts regarding guys saying their AMV files ran smoother at 12fps than at 16fps . That makes totally no sense . Surely 12fps is gonna be even jerkier and unwatchable.

I would love to sell these players to my clients but can't see the point of having a jerky video playback that only runs at 16Fps . Can't believe no-one else has made a post on this before. 16fps is unacceptable for any video type.

Is there a solution ????

I haven't seen an option to increase the fps in the AMV Convert Tool. Plus, the Actions chipsets on these players won't be able to display the higher fps anyway. So hence why you don't have that option.

From past experience, it will run smoother on 12fps as that is what the player plays them at. If you use anything higher, it will skip the extra frames, therefore giving you the jerky effect.

Try it on 12fps and let us know.

Hi .. thanks for the reply !!. It's not the player that I am concerned about , it's the encoding process ...The amv player plays back eveything exactly as it is encoded. So if it's a jerky encoding then the player is gonna play it back the same way.

I guess the question really is then.....

Is there an amv convertor out there that can convert to amv at a higher rate than 16fps. ??

Petester , these players are not capable to handle high FPS rates. The higher you encode, the player would play the videos in a very jerky manner, as it keeps skipping frames.

There are no other AMV conversion tools besides MP3 Utilities, although there is AMV Studio, but it doesn't work for me.

Ok thanks, at least I know now that above 16fps is not possible.
Kinda new to these gadgets.

Find it hard to comprehend why anyone would want to watch a jerky movie at 12FPS when PAL is 25FPS and NTSC is 30FPS.
It's like watching a slide show.

Ps: the Madonna Demo that comes bundled on the unit seems to play smoothly. No matter what encoding setting I use, it is never as smooth as that video..

Is that video somehow optimised or are they using some sort of trickery

Petester , it's a matter of trial and error of finding suitable settings for these AMV conversions.

You'll be amazed at how your new clients find the videos a great feature, and totally disregard the slight jerky nature due to the FPS. Afterall, it would cost them so much lesser than a real ipod or similar.

Also, is the overall colour of the demo video in the player of relatively the same? For example, the video shows the same few images, or a slow moving video?
It could be due to these few things that the demo video might appear "smooth", as there are not many screen image changes, so you can't really notice the "jerkiness".
You would most likely observe the jerkiness when you encode a fast moving video like some action thriller shows etc.

Yeah, that makes sense..So really these amv players are not really suitable for movies... Ok for the odd little funny video download etc.

The ones I bought were dirt cheap so I suppose I am asking alot.

Now if we in SA can just beat both you Kiwi's and Aussies , I really don't care what frame rates these little amv players pump out.
