Onda_VX858 - Why 400x300 resolution?

In specifications of latest release of Onda VX858 (00.00.0017) its said that video resolution have been upgraded to 400x300 at 25 fps... I've tried such resolultion and it didn't work. 320x240 works fine anyway.

What this 400x300 suppose to mean?
Is there any other measure beside real resolution for videos?

400x300 ?, this makes no sense to me at all, this is not even a resolution supported by Rockchip.

check here for the only three resolutions supported by Rockchip:-
http://www.rock-chips.com/en/en.asp

none of them are 400x300, it would have to use a non-Rockchip video processor.

Maybe Onda have got the specification wrong or they are trying to fool somebody 8) .....

:)

Now I understand what the specification means...

Its referred to FLV files... FLV is supported natively by this version of firmware... internally must be done some conversion before broadcast... and the specification stated the limits of FLV source.

Here is the text translated from Chinese:
"The FLV document please do not have to surpass the following scope,
otherwise will be unable to broadcast. The video frequency size most
greatly supports 400X300, the frame number in 25"

FLV outside of this limits will result in a warning and won't be displayed.

ahhh. so the conversion is done on the fly by code in the firmware.

So you start with a 400x300 .flv file and the player does a "soft" conversion and displays in the native resolution of 320x240 on the screen. It's a bit like having it's own built in Aviconverter!

thanks Daremo, now it makes sense! :-)

Re: Onda_VX858 - Why 400x300 resolution?

Youtube videos (which is the reason why rockchip and others have added FLV to its players) have variable frames and sizes... fps ranging from 20 to 30... resolution I've seen off all kinds being most common 320x240... anyway it exist videos FLV not generated by Youtube (Flash Videos) that could be out the range specified... those wont be accepted.

Youtube FLV supported by Rockchip MP4 is codec FLV1 named Flash/Sorenson... other type will be rejected, as I've proved with some FLV videos I've tried to watch.

To complete information... Youtube video's audio is really poor as it is monophonic of bitrate of about 66 kbps in 22050 Hz of freq.

Re: Onda_VX858 - Why 400x300 resolution?

Its a good idea for them to add .flv support. They could maybe also add .ogg support for audio in the same way, even though the Rockchip doesn't support it, the player could be made to "encode on the fly" in the same way, just by using a firmware update to add the extra code.

The same might go for other formats too, the only limit would be Rockchip's processing power (encoding does use quite a lot).

Re: Onda_VX858 - Why 400x300 resolution?

That won't be a good idea...

I've posted Teclast C260 v01.10.0001 which is a 50% bigger module than previous (01.09.0009) to add some functions as it is playlists, ID3 tag managing and resume of video and audio, which is quite useful.

Unfortunately they've had to remove FLV support and FM.INI which was too pretty useful. But worse than that... I feel that sound is of lower quality. I will go back to previous version to check more on this.

Bad they too away .flv support. I like the improvements but it's bad when they take the good stuff away.

Even worse again the modding software isn't compatible anymore! but at least with Onda and Teclast you have a choice of firmware, a unbranded Rockchip is lucky to get even 1 firmare that works and that really annoys me. :(
