Videos on MP4 with camera doesn't play on computer

I have a mp4 player with a camera on it. The videos I record play just fine on the player itself but when I try to open them up on my computer, an error message comes up and says it is not a movie file.

I even tryed to add .mpg to the end of the file but it will just not play in quicktime or vlc. Do I have to convert the files so I can play and edit them?

Hi Dna,

What is the file extension of the video from your player? It is a .avi? Or something else?

I know I had an old MP3 player that voice recordings (even though they are in .wav format), needed to be converted with it's own software so that you can open it within Windows. Otherwise it won't work it at all.

It might be that your player has it's own 'encoding/compression' of the file and it needs it's own software to be installed on your computer before it can 'decode'/uncompress back into a format Windows can recognise.

Check the contents of your CD and see if you can see any other software installation folder on it.

Let us know.
