.smv "sigmatel motion video" converter - unknown e

so I bought this player:

http://www.tgegroup.com/en/products/hb551f.htm

It's explanatory enough. I got a few test videos just to see if i could get the video feature to work. They are in .avi format and it comes with a .smv "sigmatel motion video" converter. When I try to use the converter it says finished but then I click on it and it says unknown error. Also I was wondering how to find the firmware file on it because it's hidden or something and I'm new to this.

Hi Wolfeygod,

Are there any sample videos already in your player? If so, what format are they in? In .avi or .smv?

Looking at the specs of your player on the site, it saids ".avi" which means the .smv converter won't be of relevance.

I wonder whether your player is a Rockchip which plays .avi videos directly (though you will need to convert it to a particular size resolution).

Re: .smv "sigmatel motion video" converter - unkno

here ya go if this helps.
Name: <USB> (USB1.1)

Logic Driver: E:\

VID&PID: Vid_066f&Pid_8000
Speed: full speed

VendorID: SigmaTel
ProductID: MSCN
Product Revision: 0100

Vendor Description: <USB>
Product Description: <USB>
Serial Number: 40030033CAB1910C

(from the checkUdisk)
Also I don't think it can play the .avi I saw that on the website too but maybe mines a slightly different model. Came with no sample videos or I prolly wouldn't be having a problem. it's made by sigmatel but under the name of TGE. The Cd it came with tells me to covert .avi videos to .smv Been trying this forever and no luck.and do you know any firmware extractor that would work for this because I've been looking for one.

I have a SigmaTel player and the converter works fine, make sure that you have the necessary codecs.

As for the firmware extractor, there is one available, but there aren't programs that will allow you to edit the firmware, so that reserves it for backup/restore use only.
