Problems with videos - "format error"
I bought an mp4 player a week ago. It's 4gb, and it's a nano knock-off. It has a 1.8" LCD. It has Actions 9.1.52 firmware on it.
Today, I wanted to upload some videos to it. First, the converter that came on the CD doesn't work. So I downloaded an AMV converter from a shareware site. I took a video off YouTube, converted it online to a .avi, then put it in the AMV converter. The manual that came with my mp4 player (which is not for my specific player, actually. There are some differences, but it works for the most part.) said to convert it to 128*128, at medium fps. So I tried converting the video to that, at high quality. I put it on the mp4 player, and when I try to play it, it says "format error". So I tried lowering the quality. And I tried going by the converter's suggestions for pixels for a 1.8" screen. It still didn't work. I tried changing everything. My dad suggested uploading to the mp4 player the video that came on the CD, to see if ti would work. So I did that. And again, it says "format error". Then I decided to try something else. There's this video already on the mp4 player called "kung fu dunk". It plays fine. So I opened up My Computer, and I copied the kung fu dunk video from the mp4 player to the mp4 player. I just copied and pasted within the player. And guess what? "format error". So it's nothing about the converter, or the video, it has to be something with the player or something that happens when it's transferring. Help? |
Re: Problems with videos.
Hi. Welcome to the board. Unfortunately, format errors on Action chipsets are commonly caused by hacked memory. Scammers hack the players to show more memory than there actually is. It appears to download all your files and you can see them on your player, but when you try to play them you get format errors. This is because a ghost file is written to the player. Follow the instructions posted here: How To: Removing a Memory Hack.

Thanks! I'll try that out and tell you how it goes. =]

So, I never did that reformatting thing. I decided to wait, just because I didn't want to end up making it worse. But, it ended up getting worse anyways. I deleted a bunch of stuff off of it, including the music and pictures that were on it when I got it. Now, when I go to "movie mode", it starts initializing, and then restarts itself. I don't know what's wrong now. I have a warranty, so I'm going to send it back next week, since somethings wrong with it, obviously.

Hi tcsgirlie,
Can you try formatting it now and let us know the result? |
I would, but what I'm afraid of is if I do that, and it makes it worse somehow, they won't let me use my warranty because I did something to it. I'm just going to send it back and hope that the next one works out better.
