[solved] Looking for converter to MJPEG (motion JPEG) video

i recently bought this nano 3rd gen clone with ipod slot and touch panel...but when i put amvs it doesn't play...

turns out the player supports avi (Mjpeg) with the video rotated 90 degrees...

i can't find a converter for this player...anyone has it?

admin 28th Jun 2008 1:26 am

Re: Looking for converter to avi with rotated 90 degrees

Try this Video Converter here --> viDrop - free open-source converter for RockChip players.

You can also try this one here too --> MPXConverter.

Let us know of the result and whether that has worked for you or not.

sylar_jones 28th Jun 2008 6:08 am

no, it is not working coz the player only plays Motion JPEG, or Mjpeg.

i've tried Total Video Converter too but nothing has worked yet...

based on Media Player classic, the preloaded video in the mp4 has this information:-

Video: MJPG 128x160
Audio: IMA ADPCM

and the preloaded video is rotated 90 degrees too...

and the firmware version is 20080516-exported....that's all it said...

what good is the mp4 if I can't put video files in it...sigh

admin 28th Jun 2008 3:09 pm

Hi sylar_jones,

Oh.... I didn't realise that. I thought it was just a typo mistake when you put "MJPG" instead of "MPG". I haven't seen players that play the motion JPEG format so sorry, I don't know of a converter that does play it.

Hopefully other members can help with this. Have you tried contacting the seller about it? Would be interested to know and if you do find it, would like to make it available in our "Downloads" area for other members too.

sylar_jones 28th Jun 2008 11:54 pm

that's the problem, the seller only sells it...as far as I'm concerned, the seller is not even familiar with mp4s....the cd given in the package was as useful as a bicycle without chains...

the main reason i bought it was the "clickwheel" it has...just like real iPod...only drawback was it wasn't as responsive as iPod's clickwheel...

i'm also not very sure if the mp4 has actions chip or some other...as i said when I tried to check the firmware it just said 20080615-exported.

i think this is a crude example of my player...who knows anyway since these knockoffs has a lot of manufacturers anyway

http://www.actfind.com/p3310/1.8-inc...duct_info.html

i think this the player I bought, since it has a "fluent AVI Player"...bad grammar is universal...

so anyone has the video converter for this type of player...or am I on my own?

sigh...

admin 29th Jun 2008 1:15 am

Hi sylar_jones,

I don't think it's an ACTIONS chipset because the firmware version is not the standard format and also I haven't heard of an ACTIONS chipset player being able to play MJPEG video as well.

Hopefully someone out there might have a converter....

Zulu007 29th Jun 2008 3:46 am

''Total Video Converter'' can do this job and search this on www.softarchive.net

sylar_jones 29th Jun 2008 5:01 am

i've tried Total Video converter...instead of playing it the screen just go blank...it crashes I figure, cause the buttons do not respond...

i even tried to match the video setting to the preloaded video, but no progress so far...anyone familiar with Lavf51.12.1? I saw this written as a writing application for the preloaded video...

Hi duranm1,

So you have a player that plays MJPEG videos as well?

Did you find anything on the supplied CD that comes with your player?

JOSLAC 3rd Sep 2008 4:20 pm

Re: Looking for converter to MJPEG (motion JPEG) video

Hello,

same problem here, with same MP4.
As said, is a SIGMA MASS STORAGE USB, with the SG-851 chipset.

The video it came with, is rotated 90° clockwise (when played in PC) but in the damn machine is OK.

vid codec: MJPEG with Huffman table
size: 128X160
fps: 15
aud codec: IMA ADPCM mono (1 chan) 64 kb or something like that...

The CD it came with a program called SIGMA_EN.EXE and, well, it never worked. Not in Vista, XP, nor 98SE... always same response:

[There is no Resource!]

So, Iīm very lost here...

Of course, I contacted the supplier. Hwa-Yee, from Shenzen, China.
They kindly suggested me I didnīt know anything about video.
Er... ok, very good, thanks...
When I insisted, their e-mail response was this (I cut and paste literally):

Dear Jose,

Thanks so much for your interesting in our ipod nano MP4 player.

Till now, no clients reflect that problems to us.I am really have no idea about your problems.I talked with our engineer he give me this information as below,
Hoping it can help you.

1.MTV means Movie.
2.All the vidio & audio fomart can be converted by AVI convert tool.the reason is not software and no need to upgrade.
3.Maybe you can try more times and download a AVI convert software from other units.
4.Maybe you can ask help from other person from your side.

Best Regards,

janice

I have sent an e-mail to the SIGMA CHIP supplier today:

Still soon for an answer... Ah, would be nice they start getting mails requesting assistance, so if anyone wants to, the good e-mail to send requests is:

liuwei@sigmachip.com.cn

I hope we all can get some luck with those ChiPods...

Hi, admin.. JOSLAC have a good detail.
I was working with all video converters but nothing happens.

Every day i work on it, try to try, reading and translating all china mp3/mp4 pages looking for something but nothing. I loose my money hahaha.
Some china forum pages write about it but only features, there are not software to download.

WARNING: My computer is crying.. the virus in these pages and video converters apps are so $%·&#...

Hi Guys,

are you willing to try something that sounds impossible ?

Download and install viDrop first, download the "50 new presets for viDrop" and extract them into the subdir "Presets" of viDrops installationfolder in a second step. At third, try to use the new Preset "SMART Rockchip 220x176 high.ini" and change width into 160 and height into 128 under "Advanced Settings". Change the FPS to 15 and this shown "Extra Parameter" for "Mencoder" too:

-vf-add expand=176:220:-1:-1:1

into

-vf-add expand=128:160:-1:-1:1

and convert a short video. Will the resulting video play on your mp4 ?

It could be impossible, because a SIGMATEL-Chip isn't a RockChip-Chip RK2602A, but the values are very identical. rgrds, lca77

JOSLAC 4th Sep 2008 6:38 am

LCA77, I tried as you said, and it did not work out... Thanks anyways...
That program is definetely only for ROCKCHIP models, not our case (SIGMA)

Besides, is not even SIGMATEL but just SIGMA SG851...

It only decodes M-JPEG video, with huffman tables

No other format will play...

I have tried:
DIVX XVID MPG FLV AMV MTV MOV etc etc etc... already 1 month on this piece of "brown"... lol...

But thanks anyways you gave me a little of hope for a few moments...

Hi JOSLAC,

Did you ever have a sample video with your player? Wasn't a very helpful reply from Janice the supplier.

Try this URL here: http://www.globalsources.com/gsol/Ge...FreeTextSearch

Global Sources is a great source of Chinese manufacturers. I did a search for "MJPEG" and that's the result. Hopefully if you look through those sites, they may have a "downloads" area where you can download the software. I've been look at some sites for you as well but haven't found anything, so will keep looking....

JOSLAC 4th Sep 2008 1:10 pm

thnx! thatīs a good one... Iīm there lurkin right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

admin 4th Sep 2008 1:23 pm

I've also sound some artilces too. Try these. Unfortunately as I dont have MJPEG player, I can't use these tools to convert and test it.

Try these tools mentioned from the article above:

JOSLAC 4th Sep 2008 3:49 pm

Yup... thnx again, already knew that, and tried most of it ;-)

admin 5th Sep 2008 1:42 am

Ok.
I'll keep hunting as well.
Let us know if you eventually find a converter for it as it would be good to upload it here and share it with everyone else.

JOSLAC 5th Sep 2008 3:24 am

COunt on it... no problem...

Re: Looking for converter to MJPEG (motion JPEG) video

Well, HELLO WORLD...

I finally managed to convert the video for my SIGMA chip MP4

Got the program from Chinese manufacturer, with MAAAAAANY problems of communication, but finally is here:

I reccomend to try the install option 160X128, and when running the program, rotate 90° clockwise.

it worked deliciously... :D
For those who wnat it, feel free to download it from here:

http://www.4shared.com/file/62674488.../sigma_en.html

...

Or you can download it from MyMPxPlayer.org here --> Tool: MJPEG Video Converter for SIGMA chip MP4.

I hope you guys have same happy face as I had yesterday...

Re: Looking for converter to MJPEG (motion JPEG) video

WOW!!! that was quick!!!!
que bueno q te funciona...!

si sabes de alguien q lo necesite, no dudes en pasarles el link

sylar_jones 14th Sep 2008 8:10 am

thank you...that was a relief...you guys are the best!

Th3_uN1Qu3 27th Oct 2008 6:36 am

admin, the AMV format is actually a hacked MJPG codec. The same MJPG codec is also used by most digital cameras to record video because of its low hardware requirements.

To those still having problems, try SUPER for converting your videos. You should find a format that works. But let's hope that Chinese converter works for everyone. :D

I'm sorry i haven't been here for so long, i've been busy. And i haven't got any more MP4 players either, besides my Meizu M6SL. I really miss the community here, and would like coming to write some tutorials again, and maybe some more little programs. :) I'm now working on a tool in C++ to help me on some of my own projects, when i'll be knowledgeable enough to work on a video converter i'll be back. Because on top of all the stuff i need to do i'm also facing rather serious family problems, and i can barely find a minute for myself.

But be sure i'll be back someday. Let's hope it'll be sometime soon. ;)

JOSLAC 27th Oct 2008 7:00 am

All right, SUPER is a wonderful program too, but, not the only one transforming to MJPEG, as, there is a vast list, of free share and commercial ones on the net to choose. Problem is (was) to do that and transform the video bits to the resolution and rotarion position required for the chip SIGMA (not sigmatel) in this specific MP-4.
As I wrote before, I had tried kazillions of programs, untill I managed the mercy of the chinese sellers who forwarded me that one I posted. And you can take this to the bank... NONE WORKED, only theirs managed valid files to be played in this "ChiPod Nano"...

Hi Th3_uN1Qu3,
