Default H.263 video format won't play on PC

I have a 4GB iPod Touch clone (V2 is the logo on the back and on splash screen, 2.8" touch screen with no ext. volume control).

This unit has DV - records avi files which can be viewed on the unit, but when I copy them to either my PC (WinXP) or Mac (iMac) the audio will play with no video. Quicktime recognizes this as an H.263 format video (old teleconferencing format) but will not play the file properly.

I haven't tried using a converter on the file yet as it is already very low res and I don't want to make it any worse!

Anybody else able to view video shot on this unit? Is there a special codec for viewing this avi?

Found that the files will play on my PC which is loaded up with codecs, but won't play on the iMac in Quicktime with no special codecs.

This is a standard Sorenson video codec, I believe, and there is no reason the Mac won't play it, in my opinion.

Any suggestions?

For PC - K-Lite - http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm
For Mac - Perian - http://perian.org/

Install the codecs, and all will be OK!
