File Format Error
 

Hello

I finally got my generic touch working again. My problem now is that it reads I have 2.18 gb of free space left, it won't let me put anything else on it though. It keeps saying stuff like file format error, when it does actually load it. I've reformatted this thing 2x and both times it stated it was a 3.70 gb. I'm using the vidrop, I've even switched from 22 to 24 and that didn't work. Any ideas on how to load more stuff on this thing? The other issue is if the files don't or can't load in to the player it locks on me. Thanks. :?

So this problem is happening on ALL file types and not just videos? I sense a possible corruption on the memory chip on the player to be honest.

Has it every worked fine before? For example, have you been able to load all 4GB of data onto the player before and the problem has only recently happened? Or has it always happened?

No, this has always happened even before I reformatted it. Which is why I reformatted it. I've never tried loading music files. Except one or two and didn't have problems with the mp3's I put on. Just with the video part. Wanted it more for video, for those long boring car rides we're going on this summer.

I would say try filling it all with MP3's firstly to see if that causes any problems (even if you have to copy the same songs over and over again to fill it up).

Try doing a check disk on your player's drive and see if that fixes any corruptions in the memory chip. Have a look at this article here: How to: Perform a scan disk and repair bad sectors.

the problem may be related to the memory, how long have you got it?
you'd better to try the way admin mentioned,that will help you figure it out.

Ok, I tried what you said about the tools and disc checking. It won't do that either. It keeps saying Windows was unable to complete disk check. Then when I remove my player it is locked up. I was yesterday able to add one of the files that I couldn't before. Still can't add others that I should be able to though. When that happens for loading the video it doesn't want it tells me cannot copy (video name) cannot find specified file - make sure you specify the correct path and file name. Any ideas?

Have you tried another USB cable as well?

If that fails, I'm pretty sure the problem is with the memory chip inside your player. You should be able to do the checkdisk so if you can't then there's most likely problems. But try another USB cable and make sure you plug it straight into the USB port of your computer and not into a USB hub and see if that makes any difference.

what is it going on?
maybe you can try the computer with linux OS,it strong supports many file systems.and Try use the fdisk tool to format the memory.

I guess I'm going to have to keep playing around with it. Now my computer is not reading the usb port anymore when I connect it directly to my laptop. I'm going to try our other computer and see how that goes. I've switched cords around as well and both are doing the same thing. Not being read by my computer. Sigh.

were you able to charge it? try buying a new cord..
