Itchee/Rizone 32gb video problems

ive been asked to post this here instead of a different thread

i reccently purchased a 32Gb rizone Mp3 player on ebay for £30. i thought this was a great deal obviously. since recieving it ive had no problems putting music on however i seem to be having problems with videos.

ive also read that many people have had similar problems.

when i emailed the seller about thi problem he replied with this:
Make sure there not HD avi as the player has playback issues with them.(also make sure the video has the right extension(it could be mpeg but labeled avi). I used xilisoft converter to check it with xvid, avi played them no problem, but according to manufacturer it plays wmv, divx, flv but I couldn,t get it to play those file types.

i can get the videos on the player but they just say invalid file format when i try to play them

(to see more info on this player and problems visit this thread

thanx

The player is only 4gb and if you've put music on, the videos can become corrupted due to the device being full. Sadly, I am deciding how to sort my problem out. I will definitely be contacting PayPal i think. I've not had one video play, as of yet!

Jonsie7 14th Jun 2009 10:35 am

im not so sure about it bein 4gb i have 10Gb of music on it currently

the guy i bought it from said he got a video working ... but not all the types that are suppose to be played on it

Skezza 15th Jun 2009 3:52 am

the device is deffo 4gb and that is why it is not working. by putting 10gb of music on, you've filled it and therefore anything getting uploaded now, is simply getting corrupted straight away. :(

Jonsie7 15th Jun 2009 7:20 am

how do you know that it is 4Gb

as far as i can see my music works fine..

also has anybody tried it with a micro SD card?

FZdman 15th Jun 2009 8:56 pm

I got one of these today and after the movie files I dropped in didn't work I checked the forum and downloaded Download (randomly picked it even though there were other versions). It converted the files and the two movies I did so far work fine. That programs player upgrade tool didn't work for me though. Tomorrow I guess I'll have to look into all this firmware and hacked memory stuff. Booo!

Jonsie7 16th Jun 2009 10:01 am

let me know if you figure out anthing new please ... im going to try that converter now :D

I am also thinking about getting one.
All my movies are XVID, mp3, 320x180

What's the playback like (Smooth? Good resolution?) and does it really have 32GB onboard?

Thanks

I bought one from Ebay seller kinhome88.

I can't get it to play any videos whatsoever, and NO, it is NOT 32Gb - it is only 4Gb of FrankenFlash memory as tested by H2testw v1.4.

I filed a Paypal dispute to get my money back.

Binh@MyMPx 17th Jun 2009 2:23 pm

Hi Mad Dad,

Can you post the eBay seller in the "Bad Sellers/Balcklist" section of this forum please?

Re: the videos not playing
Do you have a sample video that came with your player? If so, upload it to this site and we can check the settings. Some players require the video to be in a specific resolution as well but it really depends what type of video your player plays. Does it play .AVI videos?

Re: PayPal dispute
I would highly recommend it and if worst case, ask for a partial refund but I would try to go with a FULL REFUND if you can and wouldn't bother sending the player back as it would be too expensive. Plus, these crooks should get hit back for ripping people off by selling hacked players. You can send them to this site if it helps for your case.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

MadDad 17th Jun 2009 6:15 pm

Binh-
Added a post to Sticky: 146 eBay traders reported as selling hacked players . As for the video playback, I followed the advice of FZdman, (5 posts up) and it plays videos converted by the program he recommended, but I can't get it to play videos in any other formats - it was advertised as being able to play .flv, .wmv, mp4, etc.

Binh@MyMPx 18th Jun 2009 3:31 am

Hey mad dad

What I've found when they advertise that it can play flv, wmv etc video files it that they fail to say "...conversion needed". That's what I've found is the biggest 'catch' - it has to be converted first! Confirm it with who you bought it off from and I bet you that, that is what they would tell you.

Skinski 18th Jun 2009 8:06 pm

Use Vidrop to convert the files. I have been playing with the same player as you.

It is definitely 4gb (I opened it and found a 4gb samsung chip) and it does play AVI files. You do need to convert them to the correct screen resolution with Vidrop though (320x240 at 22fps).

I am still trying to figure out how to repartition the thing to 4gb.

Here is my topic on the device...

http://mympx.org/forum/support-how/4...show-32gb.html

This player is actually one of the nicer players I have seen. 4gb brand new MP4 for $27US is a good deal in my opinion. Shame about the hack hassle though but I knew it would be hacked as no one can sell a real 32gb player for around 30 bucks.

Buying and reselling these hack jobs has turned into quite a hobby for me although when I do resell them I make sure they are working great and that the hack is removed.

*UPDATE* Seller has now asked me to withdraw my bid as he has retested the device (2Htest) and is only able to copy 3.8GB onto the player!

whistler 25th Jun 2009 5:07 am

I dragged a avi movie onto the player without converting it and it played just fine actually

Goobridge 27th Jun 2009 1:20 pm

Sounds like a firmware issue. the problem is we haven't identified a decent firmware to replace the crap that is already on the device.

whistler 21st Jul 2009 1:00 am

It seems some avi movies work fine and others say invalid format :s Does anyone know why this is? Is there a way to know in advance if a movie will play on it or not?

Get a working 4GB Rizone Player

How to get your Rizone Player to work 1. Check for viruses on Rizone player. I have two of these players and both were infected with viruses in the autorun.

2. Make a backup of the complete Rizone player flash drive to an appropriate folder on your hard drive. If you do not you will lose a lot of the internal playlists for the player.

3. Test the flash drive with h2testw or you can copy 1GB VOB files from a non protected DVD one at a time and play them from your computers vlc/mpc/media player from the flash drive until the files will no longer play. This method is way faster than h2testw.

4. Get a refund. I have 2 of such units. I got a 50% refund from one seller and a 75% refund from the other seller. Use the info from above and any viruses found as basis for refund.

5. Do not use windows to format this drive if you are using Vista. If you have already formatted with windows vista format you will need to use the players internal format to reformat the drive before proceding. Vista format will cause the internal flash drive to place giberish files in each directory and you will not be able to copy any file to any directory other than the root.

6. Download mkdosfs from Linux mkdosfs for Windows NT/2K/XP. Windows enabler does not work in Vista and windows Vista format does not work with this flash drive. mkdosfs works beautifully for me.

7. Unzip the mkdosfs package and place files in c:\mkdosfs

8. Open a dos Command window and navigate to the mkdosfs directory by typing: cd c:\mkdosfs

9. Run the mkdosfs format by typing the appropriate line from one of the below options:
1) to format 1gb fat32 drive type:
mkdosfs -v -F 32 -n 1GB_DRV X: 2060000

2) to format 2GB fat32 drive type:
mkdosfs -v -F 32 -n 2GB_DRV X: 4120000

3) to format 4gb fat32 drive type:
mkdosfs -v -F 32 -n 4GB_DRV X: 8240000

where X: is the drive to format please replace the X with the appropriate drive letter of your Rizone player.

-v is the verbose switch that will tell you what mkdosfs is doing to the drive and tell about any errors.
-F is the Fat size notice that this is capital there is another switch that is -f you will get an error if you do not use capital F
-n is the volume name switch. in this instance the drives will be named nGB_DRV where n is 1 2 or 4 depending on the
size of your drive
as stated above X: is the drive to format. you must replace with the drive letter of the Rizone player on you system.
2060000 is the number of sectors on the drive to format. 2060000 corresponds to around .98GB or .99GB of data.
Multiply this number by the number of GB the drive actually has ie 2060000X4=8240000 for a 4GB drive.

10. Copy the backup of the directory structure with all playlists and folders to the Rizone Player.

11. Disable the Sleep mode on the player because it causes the player to act quirky or locks up the player.

12. Always use earphones/headphones. The player freezes often if watching video and listening through the built in speaker.

13. Purchase a battery extender for your device. The batteries on this device are utter crap. They will only recharge a few times before they fail completely and the play time on the tiny battery is a joke. I got a usb battery extender that takes 4 rechargeable AA batteries on Ebay for under $10. I put tape on the units power button and just power the unit by turning on the battery extender. The battery extender will bypass the internal battery and allow you to use your unit away from your PC.

14. You can purchase and install up to 16GB microSD/TF SDHC card to get back some of your lost space. A 16GB microSD card runs about $50, an 8GB microSD card is about $17-$20, a 4GB microSD card is about $8-$10 as of July 2009. Correction at bottom - Please Read.

15. My seller said to make sure your mp3 files are not above 4800khz or the player will not recognize it. For video files, they can be XVID AVI, FLV, or RMVB as long as they are 320X240 and have an mp3 audio stream. The framerate doesn't seem to matter. If you try to use FLV files from youtube you will find they are H263 with mp4 audio and will need to be converted. Most XVID AVI are 640X480 or above and use a variety of audio streams and will need to be converted. I have been using AVS video converter with the Archos 404/504/604 setting and all videos play great.

I have completed the above steps on both of my 4GB Rizone players and tested the player. It plays all of my mp3 music files, all of my video files with a great picture except for a flicker sometimes when plugged into the PC. It Does a great job of playing a picture slide show while listening to audio. Plays FM radio with amazing clarity and without losing signal easily. Records FM in stereo very well. And views txt files although the text is small. However, do not try to copy Nintendo games to the NES folder, the game playing functionality of the player was never completed. If you try it, it will lock up the player.

Hope this helps.

Correction: One of my sellers stated that it could take up to 16GB microSD/TF card, the other just replied that it could only take up to a 4GB microSD/TF. Neither could tell me if it worked with SDHC or what revision 1-6 SDHC it could support. Another poster on this blog said he got it working with 4GB microSD SDHC card. Does anyone have any more information on what the TF card slot will support?? I have not tested this and was about to buy an 8GB card until I got the eMail from my second seller.

aeowolf 28th Jul 2009 7:32 am

I've had my rizone for a couple of months now and everything seems ok (probably famous last words!) With regards to the video playback, I had the "invalid file format" frustration. My seller recommended using the wmv format, which so far works. I've converted flv and avi files, although a couple needed the frame rate changing as they looked like they were on fast forward! It's annoying that the player is advertised as being able to play a number of formats when it clearly can't, but as least I can now playing something!

andy2004 1st Aug 2009 6:45 am

aeowolf your lucky, i recieved mine on a tuesday 11am, by 2am it was dead. stock on HELLO screen. and havent been able to get it going since.

Sharebear 26th Aug 2009 8:47 am

The player will play avi flv and rmvb. I have tested all three. However they must be encoded at 320x240 without h263 or h264 and must have mp3 audio stream. Youtube videos for instance are 320x240 flv, but they do not have mp3 audio and many are encoded with h263.

Sharebear 26th Aug 2009 8:52 am

For those stuck on hello screen or if it shuts down and then comes to hello just to shut down again. I have found that with both of my units they did this with the cord supplied by the manufacturer. If you use a motorola razor usb cord the unit should work again. Note these units have awful batteries. This will occur with low power. I purchased a usb battery extender and as long as my AA batteries are charged I do not get stuck on the hello screen.

Skezza 26th Aug 2009 9:02 am

Hi Sharebear. I haven't tried working with the different formats on it, so thanks for doing that bit of experimenting for us. It doesn't surprise me that they are shipped with cheap USB cables. I've been using the Cable I got with my Mobile Phone and I never actually unpackaged the one provided... therefore, i've had no issues with the 'Hello' screen.

Has anyone talked to the manufacturer?

If you follow this link you'll find some MP3 / MP4 players that look very familiar, they probably acount for about 80% of those on offer on ebay (I warn you now though, if you payed alot for any of them, do yourself a favor and don't look at the wholesale pricing, it will make you cry )
MP3/MP4 PLAYER direct from China

Interestingly, it would appear that the Model M004B "Blue Cheap 4TH mp3 mp4 Mp5 Rmvb OGG Portable Digital Media Audio multimedia player fm radio TFT LCD PMP" was only ever optioned for 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB & 16GB NO 32GB.

I too have one of these things, haven't really looked at it yet, went looking for a manual, found this thread and thought it may be advantagouse to get to some more info.

I should imagine the manufacturer really wouldn't apreciate their name being draged throught the mud and it wouldn't suprise me if they refused to supply them from now on.
I've got the ball rolling, now if you really want to stop these charicters, you know what to do and who to talk to ;)

Hope this has been of some help.
Best wishes,

Re: Has anyone talked to the manufacturer

Sorry people, the link to the MP3 Players didn't seem to copy properly in to my previous message, I'll try again. It looked fine before I posted it, in the event it still doesn't come out right, just go to alibaba.com and put the description of your player in a search, nearly all this kind of stuff is made in China etc so there's a good chance you find the manufacture.

MP3/MP4 PLAYER direct from China

Good hunting Guys & Girls .... John

Skezza 26th Aug 2009 4:52 pm

Hi John
Interesting details there. It makes me think that it is possibly the eBay seller and not the distributor. Especially as 32gb was never actually an option.

fractalmyth 20th Sep 2009 2:21 pm

Hi, I have this same RIZONE player - a birthday gift from my husband. It has been working fine, except that all videos and some music files give me an invalid file format message, and some txt files open as blanks - the player can count the pages, but there are just the background lines instead of words. Since I have loaded over 3.5 GB, I assume I am having these problems due to memory issues.

Unfortunately, I have Vista. At one stage when I tried to create a subdirectory, it filled that full of the original menu structure and a very long filename that could not be deleted. I eventually got rid of that problem by using the player's own format tool. However, Vista recently told me there was a corruption on the player and I allowed it to scan and try to fix it. (Having read this forum, I now believe that was the wrong thing to do!)

Since I have to format the player again anyway, I would like to follow your tutorial and try to fix the memory hack. I have the h2testw and mkdosfs files downloaded and ready to go - and I will use my laptop, which has XP on it. However, I can't work out how to back up the flash drive. I downloaded the USB Flash Drive BackUp demo version from Torosoft, hoping that was the answer - but when I try to back up, it says "backing up" for just a second and then drops back to "connected" without producing any backup file.

I am looking forward to your reply - thank you for being here! This is my third player - the other two are "dead". I have hopes of recovering at least one of them after reading your forum, but for now I would like to get my new player working properly! Thanks :D

Sharebear 20th Sep 2009 6:31 pm

Hi FractalMyth,

Just open the xp file explorer. Then create a directory named Rizone Backup on your hard drive and copy the folders from the Rizone to the backup drive you created. That way you can replace the folder structure and playlist files the rizone player needs when it starts up.

BiLLi0 21st Sep 2009 11:50 am

Thank you Sharebear!

Gonna test that tutorial. ;)

fractalmyth 21st Sep 2009 5:17 pm

Thanks HEAPS, Sharebear!

H2testw has been running for 18 hours now and is not quite finished yet... however it is reporting 3.6 GBytes of data OK - does that mean I can format it as a 4GB drive (when the test finished, of course)... or do I have to use the instructions for 2GB, since less than 4GB is ok, and you don't mention a 3GB drive?

(Tip for anyone else running the test on a laptop - plug in the power supply and disable hibernating/automatic shut down before starting, otherwise you will have to start again!!! You were right about the h2testw taking much much longer than the alternative method, but I have two small boys, so the computer has more free time than I do lol)

BiLLi0 21st Sep 2009 5:51 pm

I formatted using the exact number of sectors reported by h2testw: 3.6 GByte OK (7715904 sectors)

fractalmyth 21st Sep 2009 9:38 pm

I had slightly different sector numbers... and my player is drive E... so I need to type in:

mkdosfs -v -F 32 -n 3.6GB_DRV E: 7716192

Is that right?

fractalmyth 21st Sep 2009 10:53 pm

We've got a big storm coming, so I have to close everything down. I didn't want to stop half way, so I went ahead and tried the above - got the following readout:
Warning: block count mismatch: found 64174080 but assuming 0.
\\.\E has 255 heads and 65 sectors per track,
logical sector size is 512,
using 0/f8 media descriptor, with 7716192 sectors;
file system has 2 32-bit FATs and 8 sectors per cluster.
FAT size is 7521 sectors and provides 962639 clusters.
Volume ID is 4ab860ba, volume label 3.6GB_DRV.
Does that all look right? Is the warning anything to worry about?

Explorer tells me it now has 3.67GB of free space... am transferring 2.51 GB of data back onto it... fingers crossed!!!

BiLLi0 27th Sep 2009 7:17 pm

1 week and no problems. :D

fractalmyth 27th Sep 2009 11:27 pm

Me too! Very happy :D THANKS

tdar 10th Feb 2010 9:37 pm

Under a week and it died

I was very happy with the unit. I understood it was something a misrepresentation, but I wanted a cheap way to play classic movies while on hikes or while commuting on a ferry. After under a week of satisfaction it simply died. I can hear a hiss when the power is on, but all other activity abruptly stopped. My computer doesn't seem to recognize and communicate through the USB port. I've seen other Rizone models with a reset button, but I don't find one here. Other than contacting the seller, which I've already started, is there a fix option, perhaps an internal reset button. Any thoughts?

tdar 11th Feb 2010 12:05 am

Under a week and it died (cont)

Like everyone else, I didn't get a manual. If there is a button/hold reset option it doesn't seem evident.

All the best,

tdar
