Default AMV plays mirrored on player

Hello there!

First time poster here, hoping you can point me in the right direction. I have tried to find a solution in the posts already here, but haven't found one yet that describes my problem:

I bought a brandless 8GB MP4 player and want to put some movies on it. The player only accepts AMV, so I converted some AVI files. The converted files are fine when previewing on my PC, but once on the player they are mirrored.

I have converted the files using several converters, but the results stay the same. It's obviously the player that's at fault here.

So... Is there a way to make this player behave?
Alternatively, is there a way to flip the AMV files, so that they at least look right on the player?

The few details I have for the player:
current version firmware version: 9.5.54
the CD that comes with it mentions QW MP-380
it has a 1.8" screen with a 160x128 resolution

Thanks for any help or advice,

Annet

Hi Annet,

What version of the MP3 Player Utilities are you using? Some of the older ones has a bug where it does convert it mirrored or upside down as well. Have you tried the latest one?

9.5.54? You have one of the newer AK202x devices. Open it up and read the part# of the NAND flash, I have a suspicion it might not really be 8GB.

It's version 3.68, from what I understand this should not have the bug?
Also, the converting itself doesn't seem to be the problem, as the files play okay on the PC after converting.

I'm afraid you lost me here. Open it up how? Physically? And where would I find the NAND flash?

I bought this for my niece's 8th birthday, but I'm starting to wonder if it will make a good gift now...
Maybe I should just return the thing and buy a branded player.

I have a feeling that since your player is much newer and the MP3 Player Utilities 3.68 is a very old version, there may be some slight changes to the .AMV format and think you should try a newer version.

Firstly try to see if you have a version on the CD that came with your player. If you don't have a version there, try this one here: Download Tool: MP3 Player Utilities 10.0 - MyMPx. Install that, convert your .AMV file and see what it looks like.

Also, do you have a SAMPLE AMV video on your player? If so, can you upload it to the site so we can take a look at it please?

Okay, I first tried the converter on the CD: BKS MP3 tools 1.1
Preview is fine on PC, mirrored on player.

Tried MP3 Player Utilities 10.0 as you suggested, but it seems to only convert to AVI, which isn't recognised by the player.

Copied the test.amv file that was on the player to my PC and, lo and behold, it seems even that was mirrored all along!

To be honest, I'm fed up with this crappy toy.

Will take it back to where I bought it and get a refund I think...

Thanks for thinking along with me, and for your fast and professional help!

It'll be the biggest rectangular chip(s) on the board, see here (square chip is the AK2025 controller) --- yours may look different, but this is a 16GB device with 2 8GB flashes:

You may need to rename .AVI extension to .AMV for the player.

If the test file on the player is mirrored, then you need to convert mirrored for it to show properly on the player. There should be an option in the AMV converter for this.

Thanks for your replies!

However, yesterday I returned this piece of cr*p and bought a robust Philips 2GB MP3 player.
Won't play movies, but recognises ID3 tags and is much easier to operate for a kid.

So once again, thanks for thinking along!
