I'm unable to play video on my new player comes up with "file format error"

I am unable to get any videos to play to my new player. I've used numerous different converters and on 13 different avi files.
I had partial success with magic avi converter. I shrunk 13 files to 320x240 avi, and all but one came up "file format error". Weirdest, when I retried to duplicate this and converted the same one that worked the first time, every subsequent one of them came back "file format error".

Here's a picture, the operating system/firmware shown is the one on this player.

the operating system firmware in settings is
version: 1018_090212_dev_6p_CM_8x

anyone any ideas how I can get this to play video files please.

All help greatly needed and even more appreciated. Please and thank you

These players are very fussy when it comes to playing videos. The "file format error" messages you get when playing videos generally means the player needs the videos to be in a certain setting (w x h resolution) and frame rate. A lot of members have had success with the freeware program viDrop so I would recommen you try it too and see how you go.

You can download viDrop from here: Download viDrop from MyMPx.org

It will be a big help if you try the sample videos here:-

They will tell you the correct setting to use in viDrop.

Hi

Downloaded all the test video's... it won't play any of them! ........ contemplating giving up and getting a RAmos T17FHD player instead

Have you tried using viDrop and using the 320 x 240 resolution setting to convert your videos and see if that works?

Also, can you upload the sample video somewhere so we can take a look at it?

download "mediainfo" and check out the specs of the video you have done against the provided ones, it maybe the audio or bitrate is too high - oh, and yes, give up and get the ramos it looks like a cracking player with excellent codec support and no need to (mostly) re-size vids

Out of 14 files I converted with v drop 1 worked. I'll upload all the files that have actually worked for you to see.
By all, I converted numerous using avi converter - one worked. Numerous using magic avi converter 1 worked.
I copy the frame rate size ratio audio file size and channels of the ones that work and try to reproduce them, but nothing ever works twice.

I have radidshare I'll upload them now and post tomorrow

just upload one that does not work for now so we can test it on other players, it maybe a corrupt codec or formattign errors with your programs, i get this now and again with one program i use

These are the only ones I got to work

Code:

http://rapidshare.com/files/351627361/Sample_Videos.part2.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/351623277/Sample_Videos.part3.rar
http://rapidshare.com/files/351891195/Sample_Videos.part4.rar

ok I'll upload a none playing one next

GrimNir 17th Feb 2010 6:59 am

this is one converted with ViDrop that doesn't work

Code:

http://rapidshare.com/files/351902030/The.Big.Bang.Theory.S03E14.HDTV.XviD-2HD_converted.rar

makd511 17th Feb 2010 3:21 pm

just a though in the ones that dont work, all those dots maybe confusing the player, take them all out and leave only 1 so like this

The Big Bang Theory S03E14 HDTV XviD-2HD_converted.avi

the player may see the first DOT and try to see the extension after that, whcih of couse will not be correct - just a thought

GrimNir 18th Feb 2010 3:08 pm

I think I tried that with one or two already... but I'll try it again now. - Nope didn't work
But then this is the name of one of the files that did work:- "the.big.bang.theory.s03e13.hdtv.xvid-2hd_converted"
Load's of dots.
The thing that annoys me is I've analysed the frame size/ratio, FPS, audio streams, and size and everything of the ones that worked. I can duplicate those settings with Magic AVI converter more or less exactly. Especially for a like size file, ie a different episode of the big bang theory that is same duration. And yet the new file won't play, even though it is the same settings, similar size bar 50mb odd. I just can not understand why one plays but the other one won't!

And how come ALL the rock chip sample files failed to play??? Is there something rudementary that I'm missing or is it a player with PMT or what?!
I have spent hours and hours and days and days on this, tried everything I can think of and have only just avoided smashing it with a hammer by an extreme show of will power (plus a malt whisky or two) not to mention the loss of money that would eat away at my soul if i did.

PS Thanks for all this help it is truly appreciated, and much needed

I have noticed that the working video is set to 20 fps but the converted videos are as 22 fps.

Hi, thank you
yeah I tried both the avs converter 3.0 20fps and 22fps programs. In truth I have managed 3 working conversions out of over 57 different avi files all tried on in total 16 different programs. I even tried reducing the fps by points down 19, 18, 17 and 16. I've tried it on high normal and low quality. I've tried all 3 of those with every combination of audio file conversion I can think of, reducing and increasing the bitrate. Using magic avi i completely duplicated everything you printed out for the working file, and even did so on the original avi's that worked
.
1 working file is 20fps as you noted the other 2 are 22fps. The annoying thing is I tried to duplicate my sucesses with the exact same files and programs and settings that worked the first time and the subsequent finished files failed to play. According to win avi 10 and virtual dub and several others the 6 Big bang pilot episode files are identical a couple a few mb bigger or smaller. But only the original works. Now thats really weird

I've given up now. The 3 working files seem to be some weird mutation and I believe I must have a defective chip. My other, identical player plays converted avi's without an issue. Its just this new one that so blasted anoying.

completely the same to me, i also have a very similar mp4, its OS is the same, but its outside has a different button at the bottom, its a dot, instead of a small brick shape button :/ .. so technicaly the same stuff.. nothing worked :/

Have you tried using viDrop with the same settings?
I've found that if AVS Converter doesn't work, viDrop generally works.
You can download it from here: viDrop
