[Solved] amv converter gets stuck at 99% - no batch operation

I purchased am MP4 player from an ebay seller in China who has been very helpful, and who eventually provided me a link for a 320x240 AMV format converter, which calls itself AVIConverter 3.0.

Many videos that I have, several produced on my computer, when I attempt to convert, the conversion software gets stuck at 99%, never advancing to 100%, and thus never advancing to the next video on the batch list of movies to convert.

When I press "stop" to stop the conversion it deletes the 99% complete conversion.

Any suggestions?

Are the authors of these conversion software utilities reachable?

Does this happen for ALL videos you try to convert or particular ones?

You could try other converters as well (with the same settings you used for AVIConverter).
Try these:
- Download
- Download

See if these will convert for you.

Let us know.

99% stuck - status of first download link - answer of more detail to problem

The first link brings up this conversion utility:

Bytessence MPxConverter
Copyright (c) 2008-2009 Alexandru Trutia
Version 1.3 (Compiled: 25/04/09 16:47:26)

It is impossible to specify the same conversion settings as AMV Converter because this software does not support:
+ 320x240 resolution
+ 22fps frame rate

I was surprised that it also does not permit multiple selection for a set of input files to convert.

...

To answer the question, I think that one initial video I converted did complete to 100%, however every other one I have tried only gets to 99%, only only to 98%.

The original videos are in .mpg format. Most of them are taken off DVD conversion of 8mm movies and SVHS tapes.
Some are also taken by a digital camera.

[solved] 99% stuck - status of second download link - viDrop - very good

The second link to viDrop is much more helpful, and it does do batch processing.
Nowhere in its output specifications does it say AMV.
The resulting conversions play both on the MP4 player and on the computer.
The prior conversions did not play before the viDrop software was installed.
The new conversions are more compressed (140Mb vs 93Mb for the same 30-minute video).

Since I think the frame rate and resolution is the same, this might be an improvement, or its a different "quality" setting that I missed.

The batch processing lists the same "mencode" utility name that was part of AVIConverter so most likely this is both an improved converter that does not hang at 99% done, and a very useful tool.

Thank you very much for the pointer to the viDrop download.

Thanks for letting us know.

So to confirm, viDrop has worked for you?
Better still, the file size is even SMALLER?! That's even better as you can now fit more on your player. :)

Is there any chance you can upload some photos about your player to share with us all in the GALLERY section as well?
